So yesterday, I finally started Christmas shopping for my two boys. Usually we hit up all the normal stores like Kmart, Walmart, Target, ToyRUs, etc., but this year since we're so tight on money I thought I'd try out the dollar store! I am SUPER happy I went!
I found these awesome toys that my children will love. My oldest loves science and dinosaurs and such and I found these little kits for him. It's like a big rock then you can chisel out the dinosaur bones and put the dinosaur together! He's going to LOVE IT!!
I found some cheap lincoln logs for my youngest! He told me the only thing he wanted for Christmas was building blocks like lincoln logs!!
So needless to say I got them 5 presents each and all the stocking stuffers for a little under 100.0! WOO WHOO!

That us great. I found a few things also for a very cheap prices at the places that you went to. I have two daughters so really cheap goodies will make them happy alongside of the bigger things that I get them. It sounds like you got a lot of stuff for $100. Im happy for you.

I was super excited for my purchases! As soon as I got into the truck, I text my husband and was telling him how good I did! I loved that they had big toys as well as little toys and stuff for stocking stuffers. It was great! I want to go back and check out the other dollar stores in town to see what they have. Maybe I'll find some other great deals!

You did great with your purchases. For us, we are really short on money as well, but I've been able to earn Amazon gift cards from some of my online activities and they have contributed the bulk of the money that I've spent this year on Christmas.
My children are going to be able to get a lot of things that they need and want this year for Christmas, but I really didn't spend a lot of actual money on those things since I bought the vast majority from Amazon.

That's cool that you are able to get Amazon gift cards. I do a thing online called mypoints and I usually redeem a gift card at the end of the year to help with presents. My problem is that I didn't do much on mypoints this year so I didn't redeem a card lol.
I did get some great deals and great purchases, especially for the amount of money I spent.

I should have been shopping all year for the boys! Would have made it so much easier! I tell myself every year that I'm gonna start shopping come January after Christmas to get some items then shop all year round that way my boys will have a BIG Christmas and we wont be out a bunch of money at the end of the year. BUT of course I never do LOL

I know! It was a great bargain and I'm all for that! I'm having to pinch pennies due to being laid off but my unemployment has finally started. Even though it's not alot I wanted to get the boys Christmas. I was really surprised at all the toys they had there and the prices were great!
I've never thought to shop on Amazon BUT I do hit up Ebay alot around Christmas time because I can get cheap clothes in great condition for the kids for a fraction of the price I would normally pay.

The dollar store is such a great place to get some great deals. Granted, you can get a lot of great deals or think that you can get some great deals, but you'd be surprised of what overlooked gems that you are going to find at the dollar store. I find it fascinating and there have been times where on a lean week, I've even done my grocery shopping there.
So yeah, long live the dollar store. It is really a wonderful place for sure. If you are fortunate enough to have one nearby, it can be a life saver. And I have two nearby, which does nicely leave my options open. And it's pretty much the closest store in my house, so I like to pinch my pennies and when I'm in a pinch, its off to the dollar store. Never thought of doing Christmas shopping there but the point is moot, as I'm long since done with my shopping.

Hi Jenn,
Yes, the dollar store is great for stocking stuffers and things. I still havent really got started on the shopping. My kids are older so I'm probably going to give them mainly cash and make up some baskets of little things they'd like. Still got to shop for the grandkids. Money is horribly tight and so not sure just how this is all going to work but it always does. Good luck with your shopping!

I understand money being tight. I was laid off a month ago so we no longer have my income at all. I figured Id start with the dollar store and hope I could get some presents cheap that way they'd still have a good bit to open! And so far its working well! Thanks for your response

hi! wow, you've got the technique! That's what I've been doing for the last three years or more. Gifts don't need to be expensive. As long as you consider the feelings of the receiver, then you really love your gift, then it's very good.
