My Best Friend Has Cancer

I met my best friend about 14 years ago online. It was when yahoo chat was actually clean and you could actually talk and chat with others.
Our friendship grew and about 3 years after we talked and emailed and talked on the phone I finally decided to go to Canada to meet her. We spent 10 days together and cross stitched drank a lot of hot tea, and ate a lot of food LOL.
She also took me places even in the snow it was so fun.
Then in 2006 we went on our first cruise together and I got to take my then 16 year old son.
We did a 7 day cruise on the Sapphire Princess and went to Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Cabo San Luca.
It was also a group of cross stitch cruise so it was fun to see what the other girls were working on and how they worked them different.
We haven't gotten to see each other since then. I became disabled and could not walk so I could save money to go visit again. she could not visit me because her mother was very elderly and we figured my friend might need to go to her mother when her time came.
Her mother passed away end of October and today she called me and I found out she has lung cancer.
I really can't imagine my life without her as I said we talk daily on the phone and email each day.
So if some of Mylotters that believe in the power of prayer could you please put her on your prayer list for me?
Her first name is Gayle and I would so appreciate my mylot friends to remember her with me so maybe she can beat this.
I know she is scared and If she decides to go through chemo or radiation I will deffinately go up and be with her.

What a wonderful friendship you have found via the internet. That is wonderful. I was so sorry to hear that her mother passed away and now she has been diagnosed with Lung Cancer.
My sister had Lung cancer.
I will keep you and your friend Gayle in our prayers. Praying that she beats this nasty disease.

if the worst ever comes, I may be knocking on your computer screen to have you become my new best friend!
I can tell you I am potty trained, like to make jokes, laugh a lot, oh and i don't eat a lot (thats why I am so well potty trained!)

You are very welcome. We will pray that the worst does not happen. They may have caught it in time. My sister's was at state 3B, which was not good.
One can never have enough friends, glad to hear you are potty trained. LOL.

Oh, Marie.
I'm so very sorry. I just lost a very dear friend almost exactly a year ago to this disease which she fought for over ten years before giving in to it and going on Hospice. Even though she lived far away, she was always in my heart and all of her dear friends miss her very much.
I have another acquaintance who is fighting this disease right now, and she seems to be doing OK, but like your friend, doesn't have very many good days a month when being treated. I think cancer touches all our lives in one way or another, whether we have it ourselves or a friend or family member does. I will be praying for you and Gayle as I am sure you are right in this fight with her.

AAAHHH marie, it make if very vcry clear how much you feel about
your friend..When I say my prayers I will definately call her by
her name Gayle..
I went through the hard chemo for 4 months every two weeks,,only
my last two days b/4 it was time for another treatment did I feel
like anything..I must say that I was not sick with it,,,I know it
makes some people very sick...then I had the radation for 8 weeks
every week and then an additional chemo for a year once a week.
But all I can say is show your friend your love and tell her to
be strong and fight this cancer...no win with no fight...

I can understand how much you feel for her. She will surely be in my prayers. But she needs moral support more at this point of time. Pls ask her no to give up. Everyday everyone of us fight for different things in life with known and unknown enemy's. Ask her to keep fighting and one day sure she will win. Hope you will post her winning story soon. My hugs to her.

Thank you icyrose for being such a new member and willing to share my story with you. I am getting ready to do my prayers and will include the names here on this discussion in my prayers as well.
We should know the outcome next week after her CT scan which kind of treatment she will need I will keep my friends posted. Feel free to add me as your friend.

Wow!! This must be hard. Especially with her just loosing her Mom, and now she has to face having Cancer, and what will be the Best way for her to deal with this and treat it. I will be Praying for Gayle and believing god no matter what the outcome that you two can see each other again. Sometimes things happen in our lives we do not always understand, but Glad he brought you two together for times such as this.

Oh,marie, i am so sorry to hear that. I can understand your feelings very well. Because my mother also had such disease and i know the feelings of the patient's friends and family members.
I will pray for her. And for any patients, keep a good mood is very important, so now it is time she needs you more. For those whose lung have some problems, it is better to avoid some foods, such as pepper, seafoods, etc. And there are some foods that is beneficial to lung, including pearl barley,pears,sometimes taking right foods can do good to one's health. Let her have good rest, and keep a good mood,try to live in a fresh air place. Just remember, the disease is not scary, it is the fear of the disease is scary. There are so many stories about cancer patient want to spend and enjoy his or her last days, then in the end, his or her disease is disappear. I wish miracle can happen on your friend.

It sounds like this was a really special friend. Any new news over the last 8 months? I really hope and pray that she will be one of the lucky ones that is able to recover. Were you able to get up to see her? Thanks for sharing the information.

You both have such a wonderful friendship. I'm happy that you both are so close. I too hope she pulls through this. Cancer is such a sad thing when anyone has it but especially those close to her. It isn't often we can find someone to share our inner most secrets with.
Since I was an only child she seems like the sister I never had.
