I recently discovered that i am both Lactose and Gluten Intolerant and as such I have become a Vegan because of this. I was already a vegetarian beforehand and this has just made me take it that step further. The problem is that at the moment i am struggling to find sutiable foods that are both lactose and gluten free and this in turn is triggering my Anorexia. I had been doing well for about six months, my weight was stable and I was following my meal plan but then the Lactose and Gluten Intolerance came around and I have had to totally overhaul my diet and be very careful when shopping. When shopping now I have to check every label for the ingredients and by doing so i also see how many calories are in each item and all i can think is that the amount of calories is always too much, that i will get fat etc etc. I was wondering if there is anyone else out there who is both Lactose and Gluten Intolerant as well as either suffering from Anorexia, recovering from Anorexia or is recovered from Anorexia? Really need help...

Hi Kj, do you already consult this with your doctor, maybe only doctors can help you solve your health's problem

Just out of curiosity how was the gluten intolerance diagnosed? How severe is it? A lot of people find they have what they think is gluten intolerance because they've been eating breads produced in the modern way - which have extra raising agents and liquid gluten added to them because they are processed so quickly. This also means that the gluten in the flour isn't activated and all of this can cause bloating and other problems when they eat this kind of bread. I'd keep away from processed foods and look at things like a raw food vegan diet where you should get a lot of nutrients but be able to avoid a lot of gluten. There are also some recipes out there that are vegan and gluten free so it would seem that you are not alone. As for the anorexia, that's a complicated condition but would I be right in saying that having to control carefully what you eat is what has triggered it again? It does sound more like a control issue than a food/eating issue but I don't have any direct experience of this so please try to find a support group to help you.
