I was just reading an article about how for some years since 2001 until a few years ago troops remains were cremated and disposed of at a landfill in Virginia. I thought to myself you have got to be kidding me. These individuals have served their country, lost their lives and it somehow is all really messed up with disposing of their remains. The article brought out how families had signed saying that they would like their remains to be disposed of "honorably". It is sad that this happened this way. I mean our government spends money like crazy and yet this can't be taken care of properly. Makes me upset.

I saw this on the news and read about it and I can tell you it stirs a lot of emotion within me, I feel anger at the least and a lot of sympathy for the familys of these wrongfully interned people. Its just wrong!

Yeah I'm sure that it has upset a lot of right hearted people. There is no way that this should have even been thought of let alone carried out for such a long amount of time. I do feel sorry for the individuals who gave their life and this is how they are treated and for the families who lost these dear loved ones.

I do believe that those who have served their country should have a decent burial. And their families should be well provided for financially.

I agree with you. It is sad that this is happened. They should have had a proper burial and I hope that their families are being taken care of financially. It's hard financially when both partners or spouses are working. So I can imagine how hard it would be to provide if it was just one person.

Yes I agree that they should have a decent burial after all they did. It is sad that this has happened and that it was done to so many of these individuals who gave their life. I hoped that those who handled this will be disciplined in some way.

Maybe this will wake people up who have loved ones in the military as to what's being done with those remains. I'm not surprised as to how the military are treated anyway, and the goverment should be ashamed. Why weren't they put into the sea? That would have been better than being tossed in a landfill!! They could have the Navy do it, they're at sea anyway. As yet I haven't heard any explanation as to why this was allowed to happen. My Dad always told me when he joined the Navy he signed a paper that said that he more or less belonged to the government, and they could do whatever they wanted with him. They also used to experiment on our soldiers a long time ago. Just creeps me out.

Yeah now they are putting remains of those who are killed in the sea. I don't know why they didn't think of this first before deciding to put them in the landfill. I think what has been done this way is very disrespectful. Thinking about soldiers having experiments done on them is very creepy.

I think, there nothing wrong about cremation. What is important is that they be given at least a tomb in the cemetery where those soldiers are being buried and given their own tomb plates.
But then maybe before the cremation, at least an honorable ceremony should also be done for them. Like, if they are Catholics, then why should be given the Catholic rites.

Yeah I don't think anything is wrong with cremation either. I just don't like the thought of their remains being put in a landfill. They should have something that is respectful and honorable. Now they are putting their remains at sea. Which I think is so much better.

A job is a job. It's a free choice to join any troop and you get payed for it. I don't see any reason why soldiers should be treaten different from other employees or suddenly become hero's (esp. not if they force themselves into other countries for no reason or false reasons and go around raping and killing for no reason).
Why should the government pay for a burial? I think the family should do that just like other families (or the person itself if he/she has an insurance for that like I have for me and my kids) do.

I whole-heartedly agree. I do not think that soldiers are above any other person.
