I have not heard anything bad about lulu and know they have been around for a long time. Have you researched what you want Anne? There are several ways to go when it comes to getting published and demand/print is just one of them. One good thing in your favour is there are lots of publishers/printers around. Britain is a great area for book creation!

I have a book in preparation at the moment and know several people that have used Lulu successfully. I have produced a photo book on Blurb and also Apple. Both worked well. The prices on Lulu aren't bad and there's no minimum order. In fact the one that I did on Blurb I did for the mother of a myLot friend and have never seen the completed book myself except on the computer screen! I had it dispatched straight to her in the US.

I put in some poems in poetry.com that later became a part in Lulu. Thanks for reminding, I may check if my poems are still there.
Earlier they put in our poems in books together with other poems, and we didnĀ“t get paid, but maybe got a bit of reputation..
It seems the earning possibilities have improved..

Hi, Anne18 If you want to read some poems, they are in Triond and I put them there about a year and an half ago. The username is the same as here..
I am also moving some to Expertscolumn so they will be there in the future..
Publishing poems and articles in a book in Lulu would be interesting too..

Lulu's reliable. I've published there. Their formatting demands are a lot simpler than Smashwords and Amazon (for example), especially if you're ONLY going for e-publishing.
There's no question of "trying" to get published. You simply upload the book and cover and they publish it, simple as that. There's no editorial filter or anything.
It's all free, too (they work on commission) but you'll have to do your own promotion work.

You create the book BEFORE you upload it, not on the site. Usually, this is done as a Word doc (or a PDF). You get everything right then you upload a final version with a cover and everything. You can print everything out and check it all while you're preparing.
For example, I have about half a dozen versions of my book sitting on the PC at home (at the various stages of editing) but only upload the final, complete, checked version when I'm ready to publish.

I have never heard of the site. I do not know of anyone that has had their books published there either. I know quite a few people that write for other sites as well as get their books published.
Good luck to you

I have a book that I'm working on right now, but I really haven't though about how I'm going to go about publishing it when I get done writing it. Most of what I hear as being the best way to publish these days is to find a publishing house that has on demand publishing. The reason that I've heard this is a great way to go is because of the fact that you don't have nearly the overhead with publishing in that way.

I've known the site for a long time now but my english do not let me finish a book there. I will need more time learn writing stuff then forget other things first if I want to have my first book published.

Lulu.com is pretty good. I published a book with Lulu. It's called Blue Roses. You set your price and then Lulu adds on their commission, so the books can be a bit expensive, but it's still a fine site to self publish.

Blue Roses is a book of my poetry. I have one smaller book published by a small print on demand publisher... that one was From My Heart to Yours, and the one I self published is Blue Roses.

I published my books with smashwords, after reading your topic and the BR, i think lulu is better than smash words, better to give a try to this site. What is their minimum payout?

My husband and I have both published with them, and they are actually wonderful. If you look at our site called twoguelphauthors.webs.com you can see for yourself how well things turned out. I highly recommend them!

Personally, I have not used Lulu, but I have friends who have. These friends are the same people that we bought our business from. When they created the business, they created a free ebook that is given away to subscribers to our newsletter, which we still actively promote to this day. About a year or two ago, our friends had that ebook put into a real book form, published and for sale on Lulu. I am not sure if they get many sales as the book is pretty widely known throughout the world in our industry in the ebook form. So many people already have it and may be happy with just having it in that form.
