I go by the wattage but also...the white or clear bulbs seem to give more light..whereas the yellowed or muted color bulbs...don't seem to give as much. You can notice this in the street lights...they had the clear or white colored bulbs in them and then when it was all the "saving" rage...they put in the yellowed bulbs...and that toned down the amount of light the bulb gave off. Might have save a tiny bit of energy, but it cut down on the amount of light so the area wasn't as brightly lite. I also notice this in my desk and sewing lamps...the clear bulbs give more light

Yes, white light is somewhat better, unless you're trying to create a certain mood in a certain room. Then there are different types of white light varying from "warm white" to "cool white". Is this at home or for work? I'm thinking you're upgrading to LED lighting - am I right? That's very good if so & better for your health & vision - with no flickering, etc. I've created a discussion on LED lighting some time ago which has much more detail & advantages:

As to your question, maybe, but I would need to know more details from your manufacturer to tell you exactly. If your yellow lighting is done with yellow LEDs, then there is some power saving because a yellow LED only needs about 2V to light a single individual LED - of which just one of your lights contain many LEDs. A white LED, on the other hand, is really just a blue LED with a slight yellow filter & needs about 3V per LED to operate, making it more inefficient. However some manufacturers are using white LEDs in yellow lighting & just adding a yellow filter - so that's where it gets complicated.
Congratulations on your cost-cutting measures!

I don't think it matters what color the bulb is. It's more about the wattage of the bulb itself. They now have these energy saving light bulbs that you can find at either Walmart or Home Depo. They cost a little more money but they really do save on your electricity so it's worth the extra money you pay.

We tend to use white to see things clearer.About the measure of electric consumption,it depends on the wattage/voltage of the bulb/light.
