They had no idea of public anger.

A funny incidence happened yesterday when I was traveling by a crowded bus. I was seated on a front seat. But there were many standing passengers in the bus. Suddenly in the midway of the journey, two young passengers boarded the bus. Both were drunk of which one was heavily intoxicated. Their incoherent talks and misbehaviour were irritating others from the very beginning but all kept quite. This total silence of all the passengers made them more courageous and the intensity of misbehaviour was gradually on the rise. Having no other alternative, the surrounding passengers started protesting. This irked them. They then started describing their great achievements (?) in life. They were jail birds and their behaviour showed that they were very much proud of it. They threatened the surrounding passengers with dire consequences if there was any resistance from them or if there was any attempt to ouster them from the bus. But unfortunately they were not aware what public anger was. So the irritated passengers had to ultimately resort to violence, both the drunkards were beaten up and kicked them out of the bus. Were they right or wrong in their reaction to these anti-social elements?

People in general try to avoid violence or getting involved in such incidents. However when things go out of hand such things happen. Those men deserved the beating that they got but at the same time the passengers should have instead taken them to the police station.Again people avoid getting involved with the police as the follow ups are quite a headache so they find this method much better, giving them a hammering and throwing them out.

I agree with you, veejay that the police could have handled the situation in a more proper way. Those guys would have received some scolding and been made to understand on to how to behave properly when drunk. They should not have taken the bus while they were still very much intoxicated because that is really very disturbing to the other passengers around them.

While I don't think that it was right of the passengers on the bus to have resorted to physical violence toward the two drunken individuals on the bus, I do think that the two people that were drunk should have been thrown off of the bus. I don't think that resorting to physical violence is ever something that should be done, but there are far too many times that people do tend to resort to some sort of physical violence.

It just goes to show sometimes bullies get beat up too.

I think that going down to the level of the two young drunks was not appropriate at all. I think they should have told the driver these two were drunk and the driver should have tried to get them to act right or be ordered off the bus. People are so selfish and self serving now days.

I can answer this and say, yes the passengers were right. They had every right to beat them and throw them off the bus. That should teach them a lesson hopefully.

I just cannot believe this will happen in real life. Well for me, throwing them out of the bus is a correct choice but same as others mentioned, beating was a mistake since we all know they are out of their conscious minds. Maybe if they were not drunk, then I think they would not act the way they did.

HI Doctor Didi... I think the passengers were correct in doing what they did.. Moreover, they should have taken the bus to the nearest police station, too.. So the jail birds would have been back to their rightful place... Misbehaviour after getting high is the worst and it should be punished... Thank you!

I should say 'serves them right.' Some people just do not know how to respect the rights of others around them. So they bully people, they act like they are untouchables, they badmouth and utter words to plant fear in the hearts of others. Well, it is easy to deal with the drunk ones. They do not have much strength and they could not think right. But once they are sober and they do bullying, that is where the problem surmounts and becomes quite much too difficult to handle.

I was taught that when you resort to physical violence you have lost the fight. However in this case I think public response took over and If I had been there I would not have acted in such a way, but truthfully I would have been very glad someone else did. That may be wrong but it's the truth.

Good day, DoctorDidi. The bus driver should have stopped the bus, gently told the intoxicated guys to leave. If this hadn't worked, he should have called the police. If I were one of the passengers, I wouldn't do what they did because I have no right to take the law into my own hands. But, when push comes to shove, sometimes "we've got to fight to be a man." Cheers, my friend.

"They threatened the surrounding passengers with dire consequences if there was any resistance from them or if there was any attempt to ouster them from the bus." Just that statement is already grave threat and in our country, it would already be enough grounds for people to do a citizens arrest if there were no authorities around. I think people only decided to take action in their own hands, remember some of the people inside the bus might have wives or small children that they have to protect so they wanted a swift end to the situation. Another thing is I think acts of terror still somewhat lingers at the back of the heads of most of us, so people now act more differently especially in a confined situation like a bus, so different from how they would had reacted decades ago, everybody wants a swift end to what ever it is that they perceive to be a threat. I think the 2 drunks just provoked the people far enough to turn them into a lynching mob

Those drunks had no idea what hit them! It's kinda funny how they were so confident and cocky at the very beginning but their notorious plan got backfired by very angry passengers. Pretty much, taking public transport isn't something you should be happy about it. I take a bus and train home from school every time I go to school which is 5 days a week and I get pretty irritated when I am force to stand and when it is very crowded. My friends and me try to be early so that we can catch the early bus with no passengers on it. But when we're late, the bus is packed and there's people falling on top of you and people trying to squeeze pass you to get off the bus, it's havoc! So if I had some drunks on the bus annoying me, I would be very angry too. There was a drunk on the bus before and he threatened a school boy and slapped him. An old man stood up and tried to stop him but he ended up getting punched by the drunk. Everyone was screaming to stop the bus. Everyone should have tackled that drunk man down and knock him off the bus! I reckon what the crowd did on your bus was fine to me. The drunks asked for it. But of course, beating them until they bled is a bit much because violence is not the way, but all passengers should stand up for themselves and others.

Since you say this is a funny (FUNNY???) incidence I assume you find it right? It is the first time I hear a whole silent bus of passengers is taking action and beating up and kicking out of the bus 2 drunks. To be honest it's hard to believe this is a true story. The bus can be stopped and they can be put out if they are rude/misbehave but beating them up? I still can't figure out where the funny part is.

The thugs were causing big public nuisance. They had to be disciplined. If one takes a purist view, they had to be handed over to the police by people, particularly by the driver or conductor of the bus. Granted that people had to refrain from dealing with it by themselves. But lets reflect for a moment: people are already a hassled lot with too many irritants in their daily lives. The conductor or driver seemed indifferent. People's trust on police is low. So, under the circumstances, if people bashed them up a bit, they did no wrong-according to me.

By resorting to violence and beating them up, the passengers proved themselves to be no more civil than the drunks except for they didn't have the excuse of booze. And where was the bus driver through out all this commotion??? I would imagine it would be difficult to focus on the road with all this violence going on. The bus driver should have pulled over and kicked everyone that was causing a scene right off the bus.

I don't agree with their beating them up, but I do agree with them throwing them off the bus. It's sad that they were obviously not raised right. They should've had respect not only for themselves but for the other passengers on the bus. I'm surprised the bus driver himself didn't throw them off the bus.

I'm not sure if the violent action was necessary but if this happened where i lived, they would have suffered more violence. This is almost the same as "angry mobs" running through the streets but, I guess public anger really does overcome few adversaries.
