Can women wear mens stocking caps?

Will they fit or will they be too large? I always thought stocking caps were unisex but apparently this is not the case. I found a really nice cap I wanted to give to a friend but I fear it will be too big. They don't have the same hat for women. I actually think women have a smaller selection.The hats for men have really cool designs.
