Awakening seems to entail a "thousand and one" approach into truly knowing self

It seems we are called to know our true self in order to be what we are meant to be ... It seems what we are now is, to a huge extent, a result of the choices we have made - such as what are reality is ... To cite an example, if I intend not to see what I am looking for, I just may be staring through it and not see it ... For instance, I was looking for a data CD and was convinced it was not in the box ... I kept on looking only not to find it there ... until else checked and found it ... It seems our reality is largely how we have decided it to be ... What do you think?
