Will My Package Be Returned To Me?

United States

So, I sent the winning bidder my blue ipod case via the USPS. I sent it to the mailing address provided, except that he changed it and send me the corrected address through email message on Listia. Except you're not supposed to do that. It's the rules. I didn't notice it until afterward and sent it to his original shipping address. So now, since the package got sent to a place where he isn't, it got moved to White River Junction and will never be picked up by him. I refunded his credits because he was causing me too much stress over it! He said it would be returned to me. Will it be returned to me? If so, when? And how should I go about it? If it's not picked up in a certain amount of days does it come back to the return address? I had pleasurable shipping experiences with Listia bidders except this one man! Ugh!

Oh that stinks, I hope you kept his name so you know not to deal with him again..It may or may not come back to you, depending on if the address you sent it to, if the people will return it.

Thanks, carmel. I'll keep an eye out for him again! Seems like it was an innocent mistake though because he said he really wanted the case for his daughter for Christmas.

I don't see why people have different addresses on their sites though, then again if he wanted it shipped to her place, then all he'd have to do was to re-ship it.

It's these rules on Listia. You her a saved shipping address to use. You're not supposed to send your address via email message. He corrected it through email messages and you're not allowed to.

I would not necessarily wait for the package to come back to you but would be more proactive. First I would check the tracking number to see where the package is. That should tell you that they attempted to deliver the item and say where it currently is. If it appears to be sitting in a postal distribution center because it could not be delivered, then I would go to the post office, explain the situation, and try to get the package back.

Go to your local post office. You'll need the tracking number so they can locate the package.

It's currently at a post office in Vermont. If I remember right it was White River junction. It ended up there when it didn't go to the right place. Now, I'm in Née Jersey. So should I go to my local post office and explain the situation to them?

I once sent a package to a woman on Gather. It ended up that she for some reason gave me the wrong address. It was returned to me after a few weeks.

I see. Good to know that I'll be getting it back. What did you try to send to her?

That is sad that someone has to be that way....it wasn't exactly your fault and if it was we are all only human. He should be more understanding...but I do think it will be returned to you.....I have sent things that haven't been picked up and did get them back with a note that no one picked them up....but it took a while.

It should be returned to you very soon. I read the other comments and saw that the package has been sitting there since Dec. 3rd. They typically give a person seven days to pick up a package, then return it to the sender. So, I'm pretty sure that you should get it back within the next few days. If I were you, I'd put a stipulation on the site (where it's bid on) that, if an incorrect address is given, the item will not be forwarded (unless the postal service has been notified of the new address and THEY forward it) and credit will not be given to the buyer. This one man has cost you the delivery charge plus you lost the transaction and the money you should have in your account by crediting him. His actions may have been an innocent mistake, but it is a mistake that should cost HIM since he made the mistake, not you. Giving you the correct address after the fact shouldn't even play into it.

I can certainly understand where you're coming from. I've had enough stressful periods in my life to know that sometimes you just have to let the little things go. Still, this is a good lesson learned, since it didn't cost you much, but you learned about a potential issue and can deal with it better in the future. I hope your package comes back to you in the next few days. I remembered that it's really close to Christmas so I'm sure the post office is super busy and it may take a bit longer for them to return the package. I hope it doesn't but that is something to keep in mind. We all know the postal service isn't the most reliable. I was supposed to get a new bank debit card in the mail recently and, when it didn't come in three weeks, I went to the bank to check on it. They said it was sent out three weeks earlier. It was actually in my mailbox that day and had written on it, "Delivered to ....." which was an address that didn't even exist! I know because the address, if it existed, would have been right beside my house and there are no other houses on this road; ours is the last one. I was just thankful that I got the card and not some dishonest person. You just can't trust the USPS.

Ick. That makes me not want to mail anything anymore! I don't really mind how long it takes to get the package back. As long as I do!

Exactly! But at this point, I would have rather not argued with him. I'm under a lot of stress for my school finals and dealing with this jerk didn't make it any easier! I'm glad we have the same opinion about this though! I think it cost me like $3.00 or something to ship it to him, so it wasn't that bad of a charge, but it was money I could have used for something else!
