Fire Department won't help extinguish the fire if you didn't pay?

Here is what I heard on the news lately, In Tennessee state, a couple own a house and they probably didn't pay the property tax, their house was caught on fire, and they urgently called the fire station to dispatch a fire truck for help. When the fire fighters arrived, and found out that they didn't pay the tax, (annually, your property tax including Federal, state, then school, county, police department and fire department etc... all that miscellaneous fees together) they simply do not thing, and watch that fire burn down the house. They only open the fire hose to extinguish the fire when the fire spread to the next door, which they did pay the tax.
So, I was wondering, if there is a person stuck in the house and it is on fire, would they also watch him/her die there? Would this be a truth, if you didn't pay the money, the fire department just won't help you extinguish the fire?

This is horrible.Don't the state show sympathy to its people at all.Is money more important than the life of those people?Don't they think about the life of all those children who lost their house? This is absolutely horrible. They should help those people even if they didn't saw properly.

We North Americans take pride in our country, and it shows We pay our taxes, we all live together, and we get to reap the benefits.
But if only a few of us pay taxes, everybody suffers.
In this case those people did not live by the rules of the country, and when they needed Fire Protection, it was not there for them.
Perhaps now, they have learned their lesson, (the hard way) and they will pay their taxes in the future!

Hi here kingparker! lol, this is on of those absurd news I've known. In part of the law, they were right to do it, but i think if it's based on morality and values, they should have put out the fire. In here, even you're a squatter, when there's fire, they would still help you. At least our government just don't look at us as tax generating resources.. Because life is still important rather than money or possessions, in my opinion

OMG!!!!!! kingparker this is the most outrageous situtation
I have ever heard of. I live in a city/state where almost
anything goes and they are not that bad there... This is
absolutely crazy. I would think that the firehouse has to be
accountable for that..At what time during this ordeal did
fire department determinated that they could not assist in
putting out a fire...and why was it until they arrived there
were they advised they could not extinquish the fire...crazy
crazt crazy is all I can think....

So the fire department would stop and check a residential address to see if the taxes had been paid before they responded to the fire? That doesn't sound right. I think someone is telling a fib. If the firefighters arrived, then found out the owners didn't pay the tax... ? They went to all the trouble of responding, then just recognized the address because... I don't know of anyone who carries around the tax status of everyone in their head. It just doesn't sound true.

No this is not right . First the fire department will go and stop any fire anywhere , does not have anything to do with you did pay some taxes or not .
Mainly because if see it simply : In this perimetar live so much more people and if the fire is not stoped immidiatly it might become something insane later on that might destroy street even a city , so no they will not take such risk .
