We know that for heat to get transferred it needs a medium. In space there is no such medium, so will it it get cold or will it remain hot forever?

Hmmm...the rod will radiate the heat in the same way as sun or other stars radiate in this universe, I don't think space is a problem for heat transfer. By the way, temperature of space is expected to be -273 degree Celsius and now you can imagine how soon this rod will be cooled and still if you have any doubt, think about the green house effect, you will better understand it.
