Have You Ever Thought About People's Expressions When Reading Your Discussions?

I do this. I don't mind that not everyone has a photograph of themselves as their avatar. I'm not obsessed by how people look BUT I am guilty of thinking about their expressions when reading my discussions, what type of computer they're on, how long it takes for them to reply (if English isn't their first language), whether they are happy or sad at that moment.
I only hope I help in some way to cheer you up. I can honestly say that YOU cheer me up..more than you know.
I actually think that webcams and things would stop the shy ones from contributing on here. Do you think so?

I'm using a laptop right now because my video card went out on my desk top but I have my desk top set up on a narrow table that I have positioned on one side of my bed. The table is as long as my bed and the bed is pushed up next to it. So I have all my electronics set up on it and can access it from the bed.
As far as being on it all night, sometimes I am. I have even woke up to find my finger resting on a key with several lines of that one letter typed across my screen. That's when I know it is time to shut it down and go to sleep.

I have a desktop computer so I can't take it to bed, unfortunately. Mind you, I'd be on it all night if that were the case so I suppose it's best that it's in the one location!
I know what you mean about the camera as well. A definite no-no for me too.

There is no need for you to worry about others' expressions when reading your discussions, at least about me.I have nearly read all your discussions since I made mylot friend with you, not only your discussions may be rated as idiomatic English due to your being born and bred in UK ,but your discussions have the rich flavour of life as well,so I am happy to read your discussions. When it comes to making responses,Maybe you can't conceive how hard it is for one who don't take English as his first language and as you have known my record of formal schooling. To start with,I must peruse your discussion,Sometimes I encounter many slangs or phrases ,I have to search them online or refer to the dictionary,or else It is all but impossible for me to make response;and second,I need to think how to make response properly.Believe it or not,It takes me at least 40 minutes for each discussion.Don't worry! I enjoy those.

Oh wow, 40 minutes?! I've always respected you and love the fact that you respond to most of my discussions..but I am now humbled because it takes you 40 minutes to respond to each one.
Goodness me.
I will never take it for granted that English is my first language, and I feel guilty that I can type freely without even thinking about it. I should think that it would take me WAY more than 40 minutes if I were to even try to respond in Chinese..and I'm a bit ashamed of that fact, actually.
As for the slang, if you ever want anything explained I shall do it willingly. Some English people skirt over their regional differences, even spelling words the American way to fit in. I never do this. I am a Lancashire Lass and very proud to be one, thanks..oh, and "lass" is a "girl" or "woman" in case you didn't know.

I am sorry to put you to trouble. You don't take me into account and do as you used to do.Here in mylot, I have no everyday target and drift forward, never mind figuring on making money in here, only take pleasure in learning English. If I have something I don't know, I am sure to ask you without hesitation. Thanks a lot.

I do not know about the shy ones, as I do not fit that description, but I do not want a web cam on me or video discussion. I mean, come on, right now I have henna in my hair, it is wrapped in a towel, then I have a plastic bag over that. If I sweat the goo runs down my neck. My shirt is spattered with the henna mud. If I was doing a video discussion on MyLot, I absolutely would not be here right now. I get ideas about how people look when they ask questions in a discussion. I can sort of read the puzzlement on their faces.

Oh GardenGerty I have such a picture in my head right now of your hair wrapped in a towel. Awesome!
I wouldn't want a webcam either. Unless you have a naughty site what's the point?
Haha!

i think i have thought about it, but i do not tend to dwell much on thinking about how they would react and how long it would take for them to answer... I think it would take so much thinking for me to do that haha i do not like to waste time thinking and analyzing. what i want is to be ready and post as much as i can.

I don't analyse that much either but I try to be positive (not always easy) as it tends to help others in some strange way..as they're positive towards me. Does that make sense?

Personally, I'm quite happy that no-one can see the chaotic mess behind me or the fact that I'm quite often sitting here in somewhat less than respectable attire...

Haha! It's too cold for that. With me I'd be in my dressing-gown, if I could be bothered getting it out the wardrobe!

Sometimes I looked puzzled when I can't work out what the discussee is getting at. At others, I have a stupid grin on my face or let rip with loud guffaws when something tickles my funny bone! I rarely look blank or uninterested because the discussions I take part in make me feel good in some way, and part of a caring community.
Many thanks for making yours interesting! By the way, that's my real name too!

No worries! I've often been amused at the regional differences. For example, the Australians are usually an optimistic bunch and it's reflected in their posts. It's fascinating!
So, is Jane your real name then? Is that what you meant?
Best name on the planet if it is!

I have worries and stress, I am still not able to get rid of it.. But posts from you and people like you make it a little bearable for me.. Thank you!!

hi Janey oh dear on a webcam everyone would see I am elderly
and overweight no no I would rather people think of me as elderly
'but not overweight he he. no webcam would really bother me so am
glad we are not on Candid Camera. lol lo I have often
wondered about others and how they appeared but then my imagination
took over and used their various user names and the tone of their
responses to sort of make pictures in my mind of them.

Candid Camera..wow that was some programme wasn't it? No, I wouldn't want to be on a webcam either. At least, this way, if I wanted to sit here with nothing on I could and no-one would know (not that I ever do that you understand)..not that desperate.
Haha!

Guilty as charged!
Not only expressions, sometimes I would imagine what my myLot friends would think about certain discussions I raise. I know some of them would really hit close to home, and I would even tell them that I was thinking about them when I posted the topic.

your discussions are very lively and interesting, its nice that you want to cheer us all up when you post them
i agree with gardengertie about a webcam though, as i am pretty sure i do not always look my best when using my computer.
though its not shyness that stops me from having an avatar, though it does stop some things, i just find it hard to think of a visual image i see as representing myself, other than a picture of myself, and i hardly ever use a camera, so i don't have a photograph, though i think i need to sort that out.
besides i quite like that little green man, he's quite sweet, i think i have become too attached to him.

Put it this way; I'm not bothered that people don't post a photograph of themselves as an avatar. To be honest, some may be tempted to post a photograph that's not even them so the fact you have the little green man..well, that's fine by me!
The only time I look "good" is when I'm drunk. I'm a bit like Victoria Beckham, I can't smile on demand, so to speak. I really don't know how I got through my wedding day as I certainly wasn't drunk then. It must be the ONLY time when I've been able to smile when asked..or I'm doing it naturally anyway.
Makes a change!

I always think about what others will think about my discussion before I post it.:)
I always consider their feeling.I always consider all sides and angles.:)I do this to make others happy and satisfied,or to not hurt or disappoint anybody.:)

Awww, that's very compassionate and kind of you. Sometimes, I wish I could put myself in other peoples' shoes. I do try (and I am getting better I think) and being on here is good for that as MyLot takes a dim view of bullying and the like.
Quite right too!
