For a week the world has no internet. Can you picture yourself in it?

December 12, 2011 8:20am CST
People nowadays seem so dependent on the internet.Online business transactions rely on it.If the scenario would happen, i think the world would stand still.Patience and perseverance would be the prime value to consider, hence,no work for most of those in the industries and companies which rely mostly in the internet. Most of all, the parents who have kids who have been addicted to online games would be the happiest....and i will be back to my old time favorite leisure which is book reading.

I WANT to picture myself and everyone around me in that kind of world. no internet. We would actually do something productive for a change. People starting to move their bodies, REALLY talk to people. We had this one day blackout in out place, and my dorm mates looked at each other saying.... "Oh hello." Haha. After that we started talking about stuff. A lot. Then we went out. It was fun. I only there would be like.. A holiday, every month that the internet gets cut off.

How i wish I would have the power to grant your wish...that is to cut temporarily all the internet connection worldwide. For sure, you will have a great bonding with your family and friends. It will also be the time when you get to know them, up close and personal. It is something you would cherished when your hair turns grey and would be in a rocking chair surrounded by your grandchildren as they listen to your "once upon...." stories...

Please do some kind of a productive adventure alifive which would give you a story to share to your future grand children. Remember, Time flies so fast you might have noticed it, you are already in a rocking chair.LOL;)

I'm imaginin myself an old man right now... and I'm trying to think about something to tell my grand children.. I think I got nothing but.. "Once upon a time..I saw this photo on facebook..." Tsk,tsk. I think we all should go out and have an adventure!

I have already experienced twice or thrice having no internet connection for a week. And I really got bored. But I managed to find time watching movies But if we have no choice and Internet's gone, I think everyone will go back to how everything works before. Snail mail and telegrams....

Oh yeah I remember sending some letters through post And I used to count the days before it reaches someone. No cellphones too before so all we need to do is to just estimate when to receive a reply from those letters.

Hi airamtheb, Wow, what an idea, awesome !!! That period will certainly be a furlough for me.

Thank you dollar for your appreciation. The thought just came to mind when a parent came to the office expressing how disgusted she was when she found out that her son have been cutting classes instead have been reporting to internet cafes because of online games. All the while she thought her son has been religiously attending classes.

I have just logged in today. Yeah, you heard it right. Just today. It was because I was busy with family matters. Also, I noticed that I don't have an internet this past few days. I didn't know why. I can say that even though I am a person whose time is almost on the internet, I can picture myself living in a world without an internet. There are many things which you can do without it.

I agree with you cearn. There are really a lot of things to be done without the internet. The simplicity of life without internet will be much appreciated.

It won't be a very big problem to me because I can stand a week(but not a month. You are right. Many parents of kids who are addicted to online games would be happy because their kids can take a short rest from playing.:) I think if there is no internet for even one day earth would seem so huge because everyone will seem to be apart from each other because there would be lack of communication:-) People whose loved ones are far away would be greatly affected.:)
13 Dec 11
You are right ferbjohn. That would also be the time when kids would go back to physical games which babyboomers generation have greatly enjoyed during their time.

I cant even imagine a day without having an internet so i think a week would be horrible!!! I maybe sound too exaggerated but that's the truth. I get information almost everything for the school projects and assignments from the internet so it would be very hard me to live a day without having it, so I imagine a week? thats more than torttuuurreee.

In your case Jeralicious, that would be the time for you to go back to the library and get to befreind your librarian so you would be able to borrow a number of books for your school assignments. It will be "hello encyclopedia and goodbye wikipedia"

I have trouble being without the internet for a day let alone a week! The first time was in December when I was in the hospital. I thought I had a tablet computer, but when I tried to mylot from that, words came out different from what I intended because I didn't pay enough attention so I got a new laptop before I had to start spending a day every month in the hospital for chemo. That was the last time I didn't have internet for any length of time. I did go to the point of working on a cross-stitch project that I haven't looked at since I got out of the hospital that time. That is what I would probably do if I couldn't be on the computer, but I would probably start a different project or at least on a different size material. Thanks for bringing up the subject!

It would be very difficult not having internet for a week. I probably would be able to manage, but it would be very difficult, especially towards the end. However, I think that the hardest part would be not being able to work. A lot of my earnings (not to say all) are done online. I think that that's the aspect that would suffer the most, if the world didn't have internet for a week.

I could do a ton if I did not feel that I had to keep up with the news, email, work. Not to mention make a few bucks a week on the internet. I could get caught up on my reading. I have a list of books that I want to read and just keep putting off.

you are right, most official transactions in the world take place online. the world would lose a lot of documents if the bigwigs try to curtail internet for which there is a move that we are not aware of. I hope no such event takes place because internet has proved to be so helpful to all people especially medical despite the bad side of the coin.
13 Dec 11
Yeah, I do agree with you because on the medical side, there are doctors nowadays who also rely on the internet by surfing/researching on related medical terms and issues, including right diagnosis and prescriptions for their patients. Sometimes, they do a surgery through internet connection wherein a specialist in another place has to instruct the other doctor who is doing the actual operation to the patient.I don't know if it is effective.

Nowadays all important activities in the world are done through internet. I have experienced a lot of difficulties due to the internet troubles in the operation of banks with core banking. It would be better to set up a parallel storage system for emergency function in all internet linked activities.

It will be so hard because internet is my daily routine. I will surely missed all the things I do on net for a week, but if its just for a week I will patiently wait for it while doing something to make myself busy. So I will never feel bored.
