Hey friends i am in a real problem right now!!!
I am doing BE in civil engineering right now in 1st year, and thereby i play football for a club in Mumbai, the problem is that lots of professional clubs are approaching me to play in their club but my parents aren't allowing me to, they say that you have to pursue a well paying career which will ensure you a better future but i don't want to give up on football that has been my only passion lately So should i protest them or should i listen to them its been really hard for me to keep up with my studies playing football now i have to make a decision soon Please help me with my dilemma :( :(

I think you really have to study too for many reasons..
One would be that nothing is for sure, and if you're not extremely talented, as in to play for a very good club, you might not get paid enough to ensure your future.
Also, there is a chance to injure yourself and lose football forever, then you're left with nothing.
Some of the best footballers I know in my country or in the world skipped school entirely or played from a very very young age, so it's legit to think they have nothing better to do and they are good at this.
Plus, if you ask me, civil engineering can make you a fortune if you like what you're doing. I'm an architect student, 5th year, and I work part time in civil. It's still much more than I could have imagined a few years ago.
You can keep playing football as a hobby. I played basketball since school, through highschool and college, was best in it at my level, but since I never knew for sure I will be one of the best at it at a higher level and make a real career out of it, I picked the path I knew would lead me to a good life.
School is more important than you might realise right now, and it's kind of late for you for a real career in sport if you ask me. As I said, most start at very small ages and do nothing else but prepare for it.
Choose well..

If you want to keep playing football or doing whatever you like to do outside studies you really need to organize your schedule very well. It's not hard but it's not easy either. I managed but I know people that don't. I still play basketball for fun and for the college team now (senior though, so starting next year I'm only gonna be playing it for fun).
About civil engineering, well, it depends on the person, like everything else. I study architecture as I was saying, it's close, only civil is more technical and less imaginative. You do have to have an inclination to math and physics, especially mechanics, but else it's manageable. And it pays really well even for lower levels, small companies; if you reach the top international companies it's even better. Maybe your father insisted because he knows it's a VERY well paid field, but you have to work for it, it's not a walk in the park, but especially if you get to like it in time, it can be rewarding and not only in money. For example I designed a house recently and now I see it built. It's nice to pass by and know I did that from scratch and it looks exactly like I drew it. It's not like any other field where you can't really SEE what you achieve and what you think and create.

Hi Vinaykashid and welcome to my lot. Trust always in your parents they are not only older then you but they love you and are trying to keep you from making a big mistake in your life. Sports is a good thing in your life it helps keep you healthy. But one day you will be a lot older and the aches and pains that will come with age will prevent you from doing things that you don't realize now because you are young and heal from these accidents that can and do happen in playing sports. Sure it is fun but when you get older you will want to have a job where when you need to or want to retire you will have the money to retire. Be cautious in the decisions you make pray about it and ask God to help you make a wise decision about your future. But understand one thing your parents will never guide you wrong.

I am a parent and my children sometimes took my advice and sometimes they didn't but in the long run they knew what I advised them on should have been the way they done what ever. Thank God for parents that take care and love their children. Your dad sounds like a very wise man. Good luck and Gods blessings on what ever you decided to do with your life if it is in Gods will.

Hi there Vinaykashid,
I live here in the States and that has been the way it has been for years here. My brother got scouted out to pitch for a major league baseball team. He was very good and I believe he could have done very well. One of the team's requirements was that he get a degree in something so that he had something to fall back on should something go wrong with the baseball career. Well, my brother, like you did not want to do that so he just continued to play local. It's actually good advice. I would not protest the parents if I were you. Continue on with your education. You don't have to give up your football dream but you should have something else just in case. Even if you are great, you never know when an injury might make it so you are unable to play. Also as you get older, you could be replaced by younger players. Anyway, good luck in whatever you decide to do with this!

Hi there,
That was years ago. He never got his degree and so did not make it into the major league. He did, however, get a great job that he has had for almost 30 years and he has played ball on the side. He loves the game. I think it all worked out just fine. Maybe if he played it as a career, he'd have grown to not love it so much.

where is your country??
i think you can start from your country??
does the occupation as professional football player can ensure your life after you did not play football anymore?
like in my country, Indonesia, why we can`t said that become a football player maybe is not the best choice for some of parents because many of our football player get the poor life after retired from their choice as football player
think twice and always consult with your parents..
and believe me, many parents only want the best for the kid
and your parents do the same thing for you

as far as my knowledge about football, i never think that your country is good for career of football player
maybe you must consult much with many football player in your country especially a player who had retired, about their life after retired...is it their wage from football club can make their survive after retired??
and i think too that football is not popular sport in your countryy
i dont tell you to quit or not, but i ask you for consulting too any party, so your consideration is done from many view, not only your view or your parents side..

Hello vinay,
I donot think in INDIA at least someone has a good carreer in football. But really you should talk to your parents may be you can be a better footballer and also may have a good job too as in INDIA i have seen once you are a good player in any sport you easily get a job in any field there are lot of examples you can give to your parents.

Vinaykashid you remind me a lot about myself around 8 years back. I was playing basketball for the my city team and also the state. I had to make a choice choosing it as a career or concentrate on my studies. I , under the influence of my parents, chose education as my career path and did not got the sports way.
Being from India what I can tell you is that there not much recogntion or money for any sport other than cricket. Unless you are sure you are good enough to earn a trial with a big football clb abroad, there is no point pursuing it in India. I really dont see anything improving related to Football over the next few years in India which will make you earn a decent living here.
I may sound like your mom/ dad but I now dont regret chosing my carrer path, as I feel it is better to be safe than sorry and not be a liability later on. I still play basketball with my friends and really enjoy thr game , but If I had taken it up as my career there always would have the been the pressure to perform and the fear of failure whcih could have even made me hate the game.
This is just my opinion but the final decision is yours. Take a wise choice :) I am sure you will.

good day vinaykashid,
with reference to your main topic, well, it is quite difficult to choose between the two situations that you are into. selecting whether you will join in your football game or pursuing your career studies being an BE Civil Engineering.
However, if I will be put in your situation, I will choose the two - to be at the football league and continue my studies being a 1st year at BE Civil Engineering. As I will talk heart to heart with my parents. That I will do my best to my studies and will take care of it even I am joining my football game. Aside from that, I will make double time to do it both and they can put their trust on me. As they will be rest assured that everything will be taken care of.
And above all, pray a lot. So you can divide your time well. As God will lead you to the right path.

It is a tough task to choose between your passion or your profession. If you will ask me about that question, I would rather pick to pursue my study in Civil Engineering. You must think if what is best for you; where can you benefit; where can you progress; where will make you happy. If necessity counts, I will indeed pick my studies because I believe that education is the key to success. It is very important to a person. I consider education as one of my basic needs.
I am very happy that we are of the same course. I am also a Civil Engineering student. We do not just build buildings, we create them.
