Focusing less on consumerism, and more on family and friends

in http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/jobless-over-holidays-tell-yahoo-news-story-144131603.html there are insights on how different people will be going through the holidays this 2011 Christmas season ... it asks about "focusing less on consumerism, and more on family and friends?" There seems to be profound benefits in running of cash ... our reality shifts closer to what really matters ... What do you think ?

Too late to cut back on consumerism. The money has already been spent!

It seems consumerism has to increase in order to make way for new jobs for more people ... What do you think ?
