housekeeping rant

One of the things I hate most is finding bits and pieces on the floor, I mean nuts, bolts, nails or other small undefined items. If I get them before the sweeper does I place them in a container on the counter, the main trouble being that I have several of these containers and Hubby will take one away for a project he's working on. Sure enough 4,5 or even 6months later the missing piece is needed, the leg falls off the chair, the table starts to lean or other evidence of missing parts shows up. Now Hubby roars, where's the missing part? This starts a frantic search and I feel my blood presssure rise. I just hate it. The end result is Hubby stamps out to the barn to get a replacement part and I feel like the worse house keeper in history. 2 months later the original missing part shows up as if by magic. I think the house gremblins live here.

Haha, boy, can I ever relate to that!! I keep a plastic box in the one kitchen drawer. I labeled it: mysterious pieces parts. I'll find something and think 'hmmm, I know that belongs to something, but what?!' Last week I found this big bolt under the kitchen table and couldn't figure out where it came from. I was working on a project on the table and figured it must have come from that. Boy, was I ever surprised to find out it was for the leg of the kitchen table! (Yes, the table almost crashed to the floor lol) I know I should do many projects in the garage, but it's too cold out there right now. I think I have gremlins here too. It's always curious when something disappears only to be found in the most unlikely spot I'd never dream of looking in

My kitchen drawers are groaning with 'mysterious objects' that go under the catergory of 'One-day-I-will-find-a-use-for-that'. Strangely, I usually do!

You'd laugh if you saw my workshop. Some things I have not a clue what they're really called (even though I know what kind of part they are, and what to use them for), so I have a bins marked: thing-a-ma-bobs, whatcha-call-it's, whizzies, hoo-dingies, etc. I do a lot of woodworking, so when guys go into my garage to look in my parts bins, they always are perplexed.

That happens all the time to me. I always cannot find something and then there it is. Thats par for the course, especially when it is a nut or bolt or something small like that. What I find on my mother floor from time to time are sewing needles. It's amazing that they wind up on the floor. But something shinny would catch my eye and there is a needle.

Needles are particulary dangerous. If you step down just right they can be half way through your feet in no time. When I worked in ER this was an accident we hated to see come in. Had to exray to find the thing and then by the time we had set up to retreve it the person had moved and so had the needle. Try giving your Mom many pincushions in different places around the house so that she always has a place to keep her needles. Just one trip to the ER for either of you will make you change your point of view and give these needles more attention. Blessings

Oh I know they can be dangerous. She has a dog and she worries about him eating them or stepping on them. Also, when my kids come over, they always have the habit of walking around without shoes. I always tell them to keep at least slippers on.

You have peaked at the various trays and containers at my house. Hubby will just go buy a new one if he cannot find the old. I should melt it all down and sell it for scrap.

Oh we keep them they just are not organized. I can walk to a good hardware store if need be. Really I should walk more often.

I could certainly do that with my growing collection too! The reason I keep screws and bolts, etc. is that things are badly machined nowadays and too expensive to replace anyway. Not only that. My local DIY store is miles away now.

I have the same problem. I have a drawer with all sorts of cords and misc whatever in it. You know the minute you decide you are sick of looking at all the contents is when you need something out of there. I have many a gremlin in my house too, I only wish they'd clean up their mess rather than create it and wonder why I'm such a crabby angry SAHM.

I don't think those missing parts have anything to do with the way of housekeeping. I do find it interesting you save those parts. I don't do so, I throw it away if I don't know what it is. Missing things btw show up with me too suddenly, mostly after I replaced them. For example the keys of my bike lock after I searched everywhere and broke it to use the bike.
