We cant judge X-factor until we see if its winner became successful or not.The voice have good ratings on TV but the winner is a failure, the runner up outsell him. The last 3 seasons Idol winners had been failures in the charts, as in runner ups outsell the more they cant get success out of US, A new season will start on January and they still dont manage to make noise.
In Many countries their "Idols"had been cancelled and replaced by either X-factor or Dream Academy or The voice.
Maybe abolishing age limit like X-factor might help Idol but I dont really know, I think Idol should shorten the audition rounds cos its getting old.
I think I tunes sales should be 50% of a factor in elimination since most voters are 12 year old girls who dont buy albums. People who buy I-tunes singles of contestant are the audience who invest money.
What should Idol do,so it wont be eaten alive by other singing competitions?
If the winner of X-factor charted and sold albums it could be the end of Idol.

Well Scotty McCreery is successful.
Let's compare their first week sales:
American IDol Season 10 Scotty McCreery "Clear as Day" - 197,000 (#1 in Billboard)
The Voice Season 1 Javier Colon "Come Through for you" - no figures published charted @ #134
America Got Talent Landau Murphy Jr. "That's Life" - 46,000 #34 Billboard
Platinum Hit Sonyae Elise - not sure if her album is post Platinum Hit
X-Factor US - TBC TBC TBC but i don't think the winner will sell. You can tell by the show that flop. Simon Cowell is losing his power. shame on him for taking Westlife for granted and bullying Scotty MccCreery.

Kris Allen and Lee Dewyze were both dropped by their labels. I can judge the x-factor winner yet since he is not confirmed yet (I said he cos Melanie have small chance due to Tween girl votes) but we'll see.
Scotty is the most successful winner since Carrie Underwood. but he didnt make an international impact since country is "too American"for international audience.
The voice only makes Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera more popular, they didnt helped the people they "mentored"

Dont say that the last 3 seasons of American Idol had been failures. Scotty sells better than Kris Allen and Lee Dewyze. Lauren Alaina, his runner up did not outsell him.
In fact Scotty's "Clear as Day" has more sales than Kelly Clarksons "Stronger" this year.
Scotty McCreery (Season 10) Clear as Day 630,000 (#1)
Kelly Clarkson (Season 1) Stronger 336,000 (#2)
Chris Daughtry (Season 5) Break the Spell 168,000 (#8)
David Cook (Season 7) This Loud Morning 103,000 (#7)
Jennifer Hudson I Remember Me 398,000 (#2)
Josh Gracin Redemption 4,000 (failed to chart)
Mandisa What If We Were Real 108,000 (#66)
Lauren Alaina (Season 10) 172,000 (#5)
James Durbin (Season 10) Memories of Beautiful Disaster 39,000 (#36)
Kimberly Caldwell Without Regret 3,000 (failed to chart)
Tim Halperin Rise and Fall 2,000 (Failed to chart)
Scotty McCreery also released
American Idol Performances 42,000
American Idol Highlights 191,000
So you can't include Scotty when you say the last 3 seasons of idol are failures.
Scotty MccReery placed Adele's 21 at #2 that week and then taylor Swift Speak Now - Delux edition at #2 in billboard country albums recently.
