Hope to become a singer one day

I am now learning classical singing. Although I am a devotee of classical singing, I left learning at the age of twenty and went for a government job. After eighteen years of serving in that job, I left that job and presently attending a singing class. Do I have a hope to become a singer? My voice is quite melodeous and I want to learn the classical for another five to six years before actually start singing. But, alas! my age may come as a hindrance. I do not care for that and continuously practicing with my harmonium. Please advice and inspire me.

Hi Akarshan, THere is no age limit in singing. If that is your passion you still can do that. There are still a lot of older people who was given a break in singing, if you have the talent don't waste it. Goodluck!

Thanks enelym. I am quite anxious of my age. I just dream that by practicing regularly, I will get that kind of melodyness, which a playback singer has. I don't know how long practice is required to get that. Will my vocal chord get fine tuned to that level? If you can through any suggession, I will be oblidged. I have left my job and trying to get back my earlier voice. It may take 10 years or more practice. I don't bother. I just want to get back my voice which I had at my 18 years of age. For that I am just continuously practicing with my harmonium and keeping a faith on my teacher.

The job constraint forced me to leave singing. In every two to three years I was getting my posting. Moreover, I had to work in all the odd time. May be at morning 4'O clock or at night 10'O clock. So I decided to leave singing crying and saying that one day I will become a singer and then there will not be any hindrance while learning singing.

But why did you left your job for that. I think you can attend a workshop to enhance your voice.

Its never too late to try new things. If that's your passion and you find joy in doing it then go on. Age doesn't really matter when you have the talent, people would love to hear you sing. I wanna hear you sing, do I get to hear a sample? ;)

I have taken an oath that I will not sing a song infront of anybody, till I learn the music properly. That's why I close the doors and windows while practicing. I will practice for another five to six years and when that day will come I will open the doors and windows and I am sure people will just stand spellbound while passing infront of my house. So, I am sorry. At this moment I won't be able to provide you a sample of my music.

Now I understand that it is not that much difficult to become a singer. Only the thing you require is a good voice trainer and prolonged practice.

Don't be discouraged by age. Reach for your dream no matter how old you are. I just wish I had the singing talent which I really don't have. Enjoy your passion.

Thanks for the response and inspiring me. My passion towards music has forced me to learn singing at this age. People become qurious when I practice with my harmonium, but I continuously practice every day and night. It is not like that, I want to become a great singer, but I just want to reach to that level, where a playback singer has reached. For that I know I require cotinuous practice and devotion to the music, which I have. I request to inspire me continuously.
