Too hot in the shops?

Here in the UK there are a lot of High Street Retailers who are complaining about lack of sales (which they do all year every year!) but I've found that in winter they turn the heat up so high in the shops that it's almost unbearable. When I'm going from shop to shop it's COLD so I need a coat and a hat but as soon as you go into a shop you start to overheat and need to undo or even take off your coat and if you left your hat on you might faint! Why do they turn the heat up so high (and pass the cost on to us with higher prices ). If they kept the stores at a reasonable temperature we might be more inclined to browse and willingly spend a bit more but if I'm uncomfortable I won't be hanging around and there's somes shops I don't bother with at all.

Are the employees wearing coats and hats? Unless they're wearing coats and hats all day, the temps will be warm.

I don't blame anyone for not shopping where it's way too hot. I hate having to carry my coat if needed....or even take if off. I like to be comfortable when I shop. I am not a great shopper in the first place....let alone be uncomfortable!

We actually like warn stores here in the U.S., not too hot, but just hot enough. Most of the stores are usually cold because they try to keep the merchandise are cooler temperatures. You should come to the States and see how things are this time of the year. It's not all that bad.

I visited Cairns in the wet season. Outside it was hot and humid in the street. Inside it felt like walking into a fridge due to the high powered air conditioning. In my home country it is winter at the moment. It is cold on the streets and so I put on my coat, scarf and gloves. Then in the shops they have the central heating way too high for comfort. Even when trying on clothes in the changing room I don't feel cold in a clothing shop. Prices are high and there are few bargains around. I would like to see more discounts. Everyone knows energy prices are very expensive at the the moment. It is shame the shops have such heat in them.

It's like that here in the U.S. as well! Every time we go shopping in the winter, I end up leaving my coat in the car. The stores as well as the mall are always very hot. Not only do they have the heat turned up but also with all the people in the building, it creates a lot of extra body heat. It's very frustrating because it makes it hard to dress. You want to dress warm because it's so cold outside (bringing out those sweaters!!) but you feel like you need to dress in order to be comfortable in the stores as well.

I know what you mean! NOt only that but as you are trying things on and kind of working up a sweat...then just get disgusted with being hot and leave! In stores here in CAlif, tho...that isn't the main problem...what they do here is turn the music up so loud, and just blar the daylights out of you! I have walked out of many a store cause after 5 minutes in there with that loud blarring music (and always heavey metal or hard rock and roll) I am going nuts! I can't think straight and it just makes me so nervous like...I can't stand it and walk out! Resturants are the same way. I have to ask in every resturantwe go to if they will turn down the music. Most do, but good grief, why do they blarr it so loud! People are they to relax, eat, chat with their dinning partnets etc...not listen to loud music..go to the bar forthat, but just dinning...okay have some, but TURN IT DOWN!!!!!
