main domain or subdirectory?

I have my own website running on Wordpress 3.1 (which you can find on my profile) and recently, the two blog posts I posted have been getting a lot of comments (there's about 200 on one and 30 on the other). I have Google Analytics set up and it tells me my visitors are mainly from search engines like Google. I want to have a profile page where I will post social media sites like Facebook, twitter, YouTube, my blogs, etc but I also want to have a blog section. I have two options: 1. Keep the blog on the main domain and create a profile page for the links 2. Move the blog to a subdirectory and use the main domain as my profile page I would like to know which option is better as I do not want to lose the visitors from search engines but I also want a "home page" with important links. Feel free to ask questions and I will try to answer them as best and promptly as possible. And thank you in advance

Uh, did you have to point out just how computer illiterate I really am? I'm just joking. I actually figured out a long time ago that there were a lot of people that would forget more about computers than I would ever know. I am just sooo envious of those of you that can move around the computer world with such ease.

I'm a little worried about trying chrome. My computer keeps popping up with these error messages that say 'the script on this page is unresponsive do you want to continue running scripts on this page' and it always references chrome. The thing is I have never downloaded chrome on my computer.

you can put link of your profile page on side bar or footer.. you can also add extra html page directly to your host and link them with your wordpress setup.. you can customize your sidebar and footer from direct .php files or from your dashboard.. I've configured the same.. profile and other links are in sidebar where blog is running it's normal menu and recent post section.. if you want I can give you link of site which I have made in wordpress..

Thank you for the suggestions! I don't think I will customize the footer but I will probably create a profile page and add links to the sidebar.

I'd keep the blog on the main page, personally. People visit to see what you have to say, then to find out more about you. You could always put the links in a sidebar, as long as they don't clutter things up.

I agree and have left things the way they are. I'll just put links on the side and probably create an "About me" page.

Since this is a relatively old topic, my response is simply for posterity sake. Anyway, I'll be installing Wordpress today on my domain so I will be documenting some of my decisions here at myLot by responding to a few posts about WordPress. First of all, my publication has seven major sections accessible through the menu. These sections are blogs (or opinion columns like that in a newspaper) with their own subdomain URLs. The home page used to be my NEWS section. After looking at my prototypes for quite some time, I feel that the front page of a digital newspaper has less drawing power than its real world counterpart. So, I decided to just use images instead to feature stories found in the inner sections. Since in my original design the home page was also the NEWS section, there was no need for a news.mydomain.com URL which I would like to have. Now with the images-only home page, I can now make use of the NEWS URL which would also make a good RSS URL. Hmm. Now, I need to examine the WordPress template I'll be using.
