I have seen this happen in our subdivision back when I was young. we Usually have this issue of having the carolers repeatedly come back to our house maybe twice or thrice a day, and this was the only way for us to to not entertain the carolers.
Do you experience this? do you do this when carolers are near?

Hi!
I never had the chance to experience that because I was not allowed to go out at night to be with my friends. I only experienced caroling when I was in High School and of course people won't turn off the lights since we are not kids anymore.
So there!

Our dogs sends them away
So we don't need to turn off the lights. The other day, there was a group who was handing out envelopes to do the carols later in the evening. We don't know about it as we are busy inside the house and preparing some snacks for guys working in our house renovation. My mom's watching them and to her surprise, they didn't sing carols in front of our house that night. I was busy locking our dogs in my parents room that time. When mom came back she said we were not given the envelopes earlier because it's our dog who came to them when they tried to come near our door in the afternoon, it was one of the neighbors who told this to her

I feel disgusted in our dog. He don't bark and he let all the people enter in our gate. My auntie lost her money bag because of the thief and our dog is outside that time and we don't hear that he bark. He just watching the thief to enter and and exit the house. This is not only the time that it happened. I want to buy new dog that is barking.

Maybe he was the friendly kind of dog... Ours is the typical dog in my country. We only have one that is a Terrier, he is friendly too but he barks so loud especially if he don't like you. The other small dog we have is scared but keeps barking. She even hides and goes upstairs and leave us coz she's that scared. Sometimes she would jump off me and sit on my laptop while she barks Only one of our dog is really brave and always watching whoever our guests is. He barks so much and we would tell him to stop. So he would stop but he keeps his eye on our guest. If the guest is carrying someone he would check up what is that too

It seems that most carolers are missing the essence of the songs they sing and are most often simply taking advantage of the season to beg for money. It would have been good if they could have at least practiced their repertoire but a lot of times they would simply stop in front of your house and shout "Namamasko po!" Some would even make a lot of noise, not music as they shout out the songs.
I am not against giving during the Christmas season but I believe there is a proper way to give. Caroling should also be done inside homes with the carolers securing the necessary permits. Besides the streets is not a safe place for children to be in especially during the holidays. If I give to these children on the streets, it would encourage them to do this type of caroling (begging) every Christmas.

Many do abuse the Holiday seasons for the purpose of begging money. And I guess i have that mentallity not to promote them from begging as well that's why I get annoyed by some carolers.
There is one time that after I gave a few cents to a caroler, a few seconds later I heard a stone hit our roof. My father immediately looked outside and scolded the carolers because it was them that stoned our house.
Some people forget the spirit of Christmas, and they just want to earn money.

I don't really have any grudge to carolers. We listen to them from inside of the house and we give them money for their efforts. but because of this kind of system, people are trying to make a profit out of it that's the time when they come around your house twice or thrice a day and of course that wouldn't feel like the holidays at all

I was hoping that someone wouldn't think about this topic since I'm one of those who had done this in the past. I know that Christmastime is a season for giving but sometimes the scrooge in me comes out when rowdy young carolers are near. It was the easiest way to shoo away those type of carolers. Well, that was way back then. I haven't done that since we've transferred to a new home.

Oh we never do that at home. We simply would give the carolers, if they are children , small amount of money .
But as to those legitimate carolers, who asked a permit from the municipality, we won't give them any , if they didn't give us a letter saying that they will be coming to our house to carol, because that's a requirement for legitimate carolers.
But if they did and we said yes, we prepare a bigger amount for their effort to sing nice Christmas songs.

I do experienced turning off lights when doing caroling way back as a kid.I think that is really rude, why they need to do that, they should just say "patatawarin" and carolers will be gone.
I like to see kids having caroling in our house. We give them small amount and they are happy with that.

Since most of the carolers in our place are little children who just find some form of enjoyment in receiving some coins for their out of tune and out of sync caroling,I have always prepared assorted coins for them. This is Christmas and it is for children so why not give them some joy with a few coins no matter if they will be coming back for more the next night? If the carolers are adults, I have to say sorry because they have all the means to earn money through a decent work.

OOh that is something i do every Christmas season...We hope and plan good every year to welcome some of the carolers but then some guys, who for the single motive of making some Christmas time comes by,I switch of the light and makes it appear that everyone is asleep..But then there are others who wait for sometime to see if we come back and switch on the light..(pretty cool from their part)..But we take it in the Christmas spirit and try to enjoy as much as we can...
