Would you like to live in a post-apocalyptic world?

There are a lot of news about the coming of the end of the world. One of it was due to the Mayan calendar that ends in 2012. I also have seen a show in Discovery Channel (or was it National Geographic?) where some people are preparing themselves to survive even after the end of the world. They have lots of food supplies and made contraptions that will help them generate food. They even trained themselves to hold and fire guns in case there would be marauders who will try to take away their food. I even recalled the movie "The Book of Eli," which is a post apocalyptic movie that shows the survival of Eli and how he preserved the Holy Bible. Now, all these things made me think. What if in my family I was the only one to survive, would I still want to live? Or if my whole family survives, but we will have to undergo a lot of suffering, would I still want to live? So, my question is: If there will be such a happening as the end of the world, would you want to become one of the survivors?

I don´t think life would have any meaning for me if I survived without my loved ones. I know what is to lose someone you love, but I wouldn´t have been able to bear it if I did not have other people close to my heart. What you tell about people surviving by killing other people (marauders)means that apocalypsis will not teach anything to humankind. It won´t teach us to be morre generous or to learn to share. I would not like a world with the worst of this one and none of the things that make if livable.

Thanks for your response, maguicha! It does seem cruel to have to kill for survival. It brings us back to the theories that we adhere to right now which are Darwin's theory of natural selection and survival of the fittest.

I do wish though that the fittest were the ones with superiot capacity for love, generosity and forgiveness. It´s a week from Christmas. I´m not a believer but I respect Christ a the Great Master he was. If he was born again this Christmas, he would be crucified again.

that would depend on a lot of things. First off I would only want to survive if my family and wife were at my side. Sure I would have the preservation of my own life to think about but if they weren't around me I don't think I would have a reason to live.

Who would want to live in a post-apocalyptic world? Nobody with a brain. I would definitely want to survive such a thing. But I doubt I would live through it. I am too old. Bad water, no utilities, no heat. Food would be hard to come by. You would have to do alot of bartering. i have social anxiety. I am not going to be out there bartering with people.

If it's the end of the world you won't survive. The end is the end. So it's useless to hide somewhere, to think you will survive or to start collecting/hiding food.

Uhmmm.. I think I'd rather not. But if James would still be alive then I have to survive. It's a scary thought though.
