Every year my children get their photo taken with Santa. My son just turned 3 on 12/10. And we never really had an issue. This year the kids went to the Breakfast w/ Santa event at the elementary school and had the photo taken. He fussed, and fidgeted. He was not a happy camper. You can see in the photo, not exactly a smile! Have you ever had difficulty with kids and pictures? What tricks did you use to get a good one?

Ha ha! I know exactly what you're going through. My first few pictures of the girls with Santa are mostly of them either crying or trying to get away. I think we have one with my son but he was more compliant. :D

I think "complacent" is what I meant - not "compliant" . Been working with too many technical documents lately...

I just think how different my kids are from one another. My daughter looks forward to it!

With 5 kids I rarely ever get a good picture! Someone is always making a weird face or something. My 9 year old son seems to dislike smiling in pictures these days.. it's rare to see him with a smile on his face in pictures, though he honestly is a very happy kid. The hardest picture we ever took though was a family shot when the twins were just born, they might have been 1 or 2 weeks old. They were born in November so we got a family Christmas picture taken.. and the two of them couldn't stop crying. We took about a dozen shots, and between me not looking just right and the twins crying.. we ended up choosing one that I still didn't really like too much.. but these are what memories are made of.

I always had this problem with my daughter. She always cried no matter what. I never had a trick other than having my husband take her and be in the photo too LOL.

As much as kids love the idea of Santa and getting presents, it seems that they get scared when they see him in person. I've never gone with kids to get their pictures taken but one year my two little cousins did (4 and 2). The picture was priceless because you had one of them screaming their head off while the other one sat there in a daze, it was the funniest thing. It wasn't exactly a Christmas card picture, but our whole family found it entertaining.

If it were my brothers, I would just smile and they would smile back, but with other kids, I have no idea. I tried giving a lolipop to my niece when she had her picture taken when she was 1 year old but she didn't smile at all, but when she saw her mother,my sister, she smiled.

I have never really had problems with my kids taking pictures with Santa. There was one year though, when my middle daughter refused to have her picture taken at all. She was three years old, her brother five and the baby was one. She cried and made such a fuss, that we ended up just getting a picture with the oldest and youngest. I have that picture now to remember how she really hates to have her picture taken and to this day, she still dislikes having her photo taken. I know that probably didn't help you much, but sometimes we have to let the kids take the lead.
