Is being a pessimist or an optimist something we are born with or is it taught to us?

I don't believe that being an optimist or a pessimist can be taught. I can perfectly see how our surroundings can influence us same thing as the way we are raised but I think the in the end, we have our own decisions and have our own minds to act and be our self. I do think that our environment can definitely affect us but not to the point where it will change us. I maybe wrong, that my own opinion.

A bit of both. I remember that while I was married to my ex-husband, I felt a lot of pessimism. I was depressed at the way my life was going, so my usual optimism was gone. I realized that I needed to end that relationship, but the overall feeling was still there. It wasn't until I began to listen to The Secret that I began to change the way I thought and my optimism began to come back. Now I am grateful to wake every day, and although my fiance and I have a number of hurdles currently facing us, I KNOW we can get through it. He's still a bit of a pessimist though...and that can be difficult to live with.
