Do you carry weapons with you?

We are living in a dangerous world. Some of us find it necessary to carry our own weapons to protect ourselves from opportunistic criminals who wouldn't think twice to harm us. Last night, my boyfriend was carrying an ice-pick. he concealed it by inserting it into a wooden stick carved like a drum stick. He said it was a necessity to carry such things in case of emergencies. He has always been the type to fight off snatchers, thieves and gang members. It had me worried. So, do you carry weapons with you as a means of self preservation? Is it necessary? What do you think?

even if we don't have enemies, there are random criminals who pick random people like us for them to mug.

Violence begets violence. If you carry a weapon, you encourage the person who's trying to steal your bag to physically assault you as well. Are a few possessions really worth getting stabbed for? Unless you're proficient in self-defence, it's never worth fighting, in my opinion. You just risk getting badly hurt or killed over a bit of money or a crappy cell phone. Of course, I live in a relatively safe place in a relatively safe country but I've never carried a weapon, even when I've lived in more dangerous places.

I agree with you spike. We ought to consider the consequences of carrying weapons, too. Not all criminals would leave you simply alone, some would kill you after stealing from you. I would rather die having put up a fight when those merciless criminals would kill me anyway.

I don't personally carry a weapon but I don't go anywhere without my armed bodyguard. I am a teacher living in a provence where armed insurgents have marked teachers for elimination.

I strongly agree with your boyfriend.Nowadays,we really need to know how to protect ourself. Don't depend on police. I always prepared a wood and put in my car just in case anythinghappen, i have something in hand to protect me and my family.

Police don't respond that quick, so we mostly have to rely on ourselves for self protection. I see, have you tried signing up for martial arts classes?

An icepick for me is a little dangerous. What if someone sees it and thinks that he is a bad guy? I don't know if it is a weapon but I do carry a pepper spray. I have the small one and it is connected on my key chain. I have a taser but I seldom carry it. I think it is pretty bulky. I also have a pen with me all the time and I think it can be a pretty effective weapon.

pens, you can easily use to stab them on the eye. problem is if there are more men you have to fight off. they are mostly stronger than us

Well i never bring any weapon with me since my country is a little peaceful. Besides, it is a crime to bring any weapon in my country. Well it's true that we need the weapon if we got atacked by some criminals, but just hope that something like that never happen to us.

but hoping is not an assurance that we won't get attacked If unfortunately I encounter dangerous people, i would have to give them what they want. i'm very small, i would lose in a physical fight

Hi... Here its not legal to carry a weapon.. And weapons are not really common here... Only hardened criminals carry them.. Your boy friend does it for the need I believe... But please make sure that he doesn't lose his temper easily... Bad temper & weapon at hand aren't good things and the two combined can lead to disasters... Take care...

I never carry a weapon with me i have never felt the need to carry one and if i did i could get arrested.I live in a small town which is perfectaly safe most of the murders that have occurred have been men killing themselves and their famillies you are much more likely to be killed by your familly than a stranger when you are out.In the UK the only people that really ever carry weapons are people that intend to use them and people that carry a weapon to protect themselves from violence are often victims of violence themselves.

That's a touchy subject, I probably would like to carry a knife for self-defence but here in Canada we're not allowed to carry a weapon, and definitely not a concealed weapon. I do carry a hunting knife in my first aid kit but that's to quickly rip off a piece of gauze, or for carving wood sticks for wiener/marshmallow roasts, stuff like that. The blade is under six inches long, and it doesn't have a spring, and I checked with a police officer and he said it's fine for my first aid kit. But for self-defence, I'm afraid I don't have anything except for puny little fists and a big mouth for screeching

I don't carry anything on me that can be considered actual weapons. I've read a lot on how to protect myself with objects most people carry on themselves on a normal day, so I don't really see much need outside of those. My area isn't the safest part of town to live in, but it doesn't warrant needing to conceal weapons.
