What would be the greatest book ever written?

I would have to say the bible. The book of Jesus' life has molded our generation's morality. It has affected billions of lives by portraying the wonderful and amazing deeds performed by Jesus during His life on earth. If the bible wasn't written, most of the people today would have nowhere to look for guidance, trust and hope.

I will share your thoughts. This verse says a lot for all of us: Romans 15:4 ”For whatsoever things were written foretime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.” King James Online Bible: http://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Romans-15-4/

Definitely, I agree with you so much! The Word of God (the Bible) is not just simply an ordinary book for people to read, but like I said, it the Word of God itself where we find a lot of things that we need to know for guidance in our daily lives and so many more.

Plus I will not say my own holy book as written! So it means it was writtten by man??? I am a muslem, we believe Al-Qur'an wasn't written by our Prophet, but it is the direct Words of God through Prophet Muhammad, and because he was Arabian, so it was revealed in Arabic language (his own language)

I am totally not agree with bible as the only source for guidance! :/ look all around the world sooo many religions! How about Al-Qur'an? Tripitaka, Veda, Bavadaghita, Confucius book, and many more holy book and moral book for other religions?

Bible is a good book but I haven't read all part of it. But, for me it's not only Bible. I'm sure all religion's bible is also the best. I believe that all religion's teaching is for the best of mankind. So, it's not only Christian Bible but all religion's bible.

Lets just start by saying that the Bible isn't ONE book, but a collection of many books and letters. And God didn't WRITE it, but the people who did were inspired by God to say his words. Unless you are Catholic or Orthodox, then you don't have all the books, and its just wrong that any man thinks he knows more than those holy men that selected the books to go in The Bible. Having said that, there is nothing wrong with a book that the virtues extolled by the men who wrote the books in the Bible are made up of. Good people will succeed because they are virtuous, because they want to do right for their fellow people. They don't win by trickery or lies. They want the best for all people, not just their friends. They have no desire to lord it over other people and strive to make the world a better place.

Lord Demon by Roger Zelazny. Best book I've ever read, though it won't be on any lists anywhere (his Lord of Light might well be, though). On a more serious note, I think you'd have to categorise a bit further. Do you mean fiction or non-fiction? What kind of fiction or non-fiction? You cannot ignore books like Ulysses, any of Shakespeare's work and even modern stuff that's vitally important in its own field (what about Freud, for instance?). The Guardian published their top 100 lists (fiction and non-fiction) a while back, here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2003/oct/12/features.fiction (fiction) and http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2011/jun/14/100-greatest-non-fiction-books (non-fiction) but I'm sure many people would disagree with a lot of those.

Hello friend. I would also agree with you with bible. But, i haven't read bible completely. I have just read a few verse here and there. But those were enough to know about what the bible is all about. I hope to read the bible completely one day. For me, Bhagavad Gita is the best book for every person's life. Those are the words of the lord, "Sri Krishna". The book is all about the conversation between the lord "Krishna" and "Arjuna" during the great war of "Mahabharata". Mahabharata is another great epic of our cult! That book also is one of the best books i would say. Other than these two books, there is another great epic called the "Ramayana", which completely explains how a man should live in this world! It is based on our lord "Sri Mahavishnu". Ramayana is the story of "Lord Rama" who is the Incarnation of the lord "Sri Mahavishnu". All these three books certainly help us with the living, finding the meaning of our lives, how we have to live, it teaches about our karma, it leads us to the enlightenment and salvation. Take care!
