Christmas is a time where people give and receive presents. Sometimes people even have wish lists of what they wanted to receive. Even though you sometimes wished for a gift, it sometimes turned out that it is not the right gift you wanted to receive. In some occasion also people are too busy to even shop for gifts thus they just give monetary gifts to save time and allow them to buy their own gifts instead.
If you can ask the one who will give you your Christmas presents, which do you prefer to receive: money or wrapped gifts? Why?

I like both, but it depends on who is giving me the gift. My mother cannot buy presents herself, so she gives money to everyone. I buy something for myself and tell her later what I bought with her money. My brother gives me books and I love to try to guess what´s inside the package. So I love everything, depending on who is giving me the gift. My youngest grandchildren usually give me a drawing they made. I cherish them

He just turned 16. Oh no no no... not yet. I want him to finish college first and have a happy life first being single. I'm not in a hurry to be a grandmother yet. Errr... maybe in 10 years time.

Oh that was so sweet. When my son was still in grade school and whenever he gave me a card he made for either Christmas, Valentine, Mother's day or my birthday I was so touched and so happy. Now he can make his own savings and buy me things he thinks will be useful to me like letter opener, a keychain, a coin purse. Last Valentine, he gave me a bouquet of roses, a kiss and tell me "You're my first and greatest valentine Mama, but can I have 3 roses? I will give them to a girl who will promise she will also love you." I gave him the 3 roses and told him that "Tell that someone to tell me that after 10 years." and we laugh and laugh.

Ok. I have to explain. From birth to about 17 I was Christian at least on paper. Back then Christmas meant the toy or thing I Wanted. If you gave me money I would be disappointed. But by the time I turned 17 , I chose to be Jewish. From then on I celebrated both Hanukkah and Christmas,my family is Christian. by that time there were less toys and more music and things But if I got money it was cool because I love shopping! Now that I can get almost everything I want during the year , when Christmas comes along I Literally have to window shop to make my list. This year I had only three things I would like and so I asked for a gift card too or money. It all depends on the person. A gift card or money is the perfect gift for a shopaholic, but the Worse gift for a person who loathes shopping. In my family I always give out a Christmas list in order of importance. With prices and location I saw it. That way All they have to do is decide what they can get and rhen I Always say if it can't be shipped in time , get a Christmas Card and write in it what is about to come in time. Or they know to get a gift card.

That was nice. You get to celebrate Christmas in a variety, the Jewish and the Christian way. With that, you get the best of both world as they say.
Whenever I receive a Christmas Card, it means so much to me. The passages and words could melt my heart a thousand ways. I still keep my old Christmas cards from my friends and family and read them again and again and breaks me into tears if the card comes from people so dear to me. Oh my! Just the thought of it makes me cry.
Have a blessed Christmas my friend.

I have always thought it strange.. Wouldn't it be easier if we all just bought the presents we wanted for ourselves, and then it would save a lot of hassle in thinking what to buy for others!
Seriously, I don't make wish lists, as it is better to have a suprise. If I make a wish-list, then I know what I am going to get. So I might as well have bought it for myself and told my family and friends to do the same.. They won't have any of it though, so I have to trawl around the shops racking my brains thinking of what to buy for them.. And what if they ask for something that I cannot afford!? Now that would throw the cat amongst the pigeons!
If we all were to give money, then that would be easier.. But then money is all the same and we might as well as pulled a bit of cash out of pockets, give it to them and them do the same with us.. That would get confusing, because it would be hard to tell who's money is who's...
Best to have cash though and then buy what you want when the prices are cheaper after Xmas!.. Merry Xmas! _Derek

Well we need to accept the fact that some people need the wish lists to organize their gift giving/receiving. Some people find it too much to ask, but I say they are just being real what they really wanted to and not to receive 10 teddies from different giver. ha..ha.. ha... Although to me the more the merrier.
Smart thinking about cheaper bargains after the holiday season.
Merry Christmas to you too.

I prefer both, depending on the situation. If someone buys me something I've asked for, then I prefer wrapped gifts. But otherwise I prefer money or a gift card so I can buy what I want. Usually I'm in the money or gift card side of the argument, because most of my family completely ignores my Christmas wish list and buys random stuff that I don't want nor need. :)

ha..ha..ha.. so much for the wish lists huh? I also have the same experience sometimes that no matter how your effort of thinking and listing all those gifts you wish for, most of them turn out to not the wish you thought of. It is always true that you cannot get whatever you wished for and at the end of the day you just have to accept it and return the favor of thanking the giver.

Hello Palepurple!
Personally, my answer would be neither wrapped nor money is the best Christmas gift. For me, the greatest Christmas present that you can give to your family and friends is yourself. The gift of your presence, your concern, your laughter and of course your love for them.
For the sake of answering your question though, I'd rather have a wrapped gift as I wanted to be surprised. Have a blessed Christmas and a Prosperous New year!

I agree with the both of you. In anycase, giving oneself and presence is the best and greatest gift for Christmas let it not only be for Christmas but must be all year through.

I definitely agree with you that the best Christmas gift is our physical presence, being together as one complete family in the company of friends.
For me, in times of plenty, I would choose to receive a wrapped gift rather than money, but in times of financial difficulty, my preference is money over material gift. Money is liquid. I can either buy gifts or give cash for my family and friends.

i am to choose, i prefer receiving and giving money. I suck at giving/buying gifts. I dont do it unless asked what to give specifically hahaha.. I like wrapping stuff but not looking for something to put inside. I dont like the feeling of disliking what people gave me. I seldom like things, i dont keep one because theyre there even if its for free. Like last year, we exchanged gifts with friends and i kinda dont like what i got. Thinking of the money they spent, i could have bought something i like for that.

I'm sure you will receive some gifts again this year and hopefully you will like them.
I know some people are not good in buying gifts for their loved ones. Whether it be money or some gifts you bought, it is the spirit of gift giving and receiving that count most.
But don't despair if it turns out to be not the way you wanted it because this is one season to think that we celebrate Someone's birthday who was born in a manger shared clothed with nothing but the radiance of love to us all.
Happy thoughts and have a Blessed Christmas!

You know it is always nice when someone gives you a little bit of money, but it is really the gifts that are all wrapped up with pretty bows and wrapping paper that I like the most. I really like the anticipation of getting to tear off the wrapping paper and I also really like the fact that someone has taken the time to think about what I would like as a gift for Christmas. However, I do understand when people don't have time to pick out a gift just for me.

Hi,there. I would be so happy get any presents. I appreciate their sincerity to give it to me that means they pay attention to me and recognize my existence on their life.
Honestly, I prefer to receive gift cos it needs more preparation and more useful for the next time. The gift given has higher meaning on heart than the price of the gift itself. I also will remember it for longer time than money. It's me, you'll be diferrent.

I think it is better if we will be given gifts on Christmas since with gifts, we will be able to keep and cherish it. When we will be seeing the things given to us, we will be able to remember the person who gave that stuff. There is nothing wrong with money, but then we will just spend it in a way we want without any remembrance from that money.

For me, I prefer to receive a wrapped gifts. It's great to think that someone give you a wrapped gift maybe because they thought that you need that stuff. If someone gives you money, I think it will make the receiver think on how will she spend it. It's hard to decide what to buy. It is much better to receive a wrapped gift because upon removing the wrap of the gift, the feelings during that time is really different.

Well the element of surprise can always be found in a wrapped gift but less we thought the money gift we might receive also was from a person's hard earned savings thus equally appreciable.
I guess we have to take into consideration the motive of one's gift giving and appreciate it no matter it be a wrapped gift or money or even the plane and simple gesture of greeting 'Merry Christmas.'

I personally prefer money, as long as it is at least $100. Actually, both presents are equally good. A problem with wrapped gifts is that you dislike the present, or you already have it. In this case, you can always give it someone else or rewrap it for someone else. Going back to money as a gift (a big amount), you would not to complain or fuss about it.

Well my personal choice would be wrapped gifts than money. I know many people say money gives them the freedom to get whatever they want as sometimes gifts may not be what they had wanted. But I have 3 things to people who say this-
1. Any gift, given with love and affection, from someone else is better than what we choose for ourselves.
2. It also shows that the other person cares for you to spend time and get something for you. ( Money does not say this.)
3. The excitement you get when you just take of the wrapper to finally see your gift is uncomparable.

Hi there!
Definitely you are right that the effort made for wrapped gifts shows the importance of the person that gave them to you. But sometimes people are just too busy that they don't want to disappoint you for not having the gift you want thus they just thought of giving you the money and you buying them instead. This doesn't mean that they love you less. Although sometime, people who gives money just really don't care and just for the heck of gift giving they resort to this.
Here in the Philippines, Christmas preparation start as early as the so-called 'ber' months which is September. If you are to consider them, you have 115 days to look for that particular present you want for your family and special friends - ample time to think and plan for the gifts.
On occasion that the gift I have given turns out to be not the one that they wished for, then I start compromising especially to children and make a deal (believe me you cannot argue with them, they always win!) ha..ha..ha..
Thanks for the response.

Well some wrapped gifts are food and I'm sure the recipient would be delighted if that is what he wished from you. Last year, a visiting friend from Canada gave me a package full of different canned goods and chocolate candies for me and my son.
But don't count it, it's the thought that one remembers you and that's a great gift for one and not any material things.
