Do you consider chastity as form of holiness?

I would like to give credit first to flowerchilde for bringing up this idea as a discussion arising from a response to the issue on why do orthodox and catholic churches maintain that Jesus was the only Son of Mary and Joseph.
That fellow mylotter (for lack of idea of gender) believes that the catholic church maintains such position in order to retain its teaching of Mary being virgin for life. He insinuated that this was because they thought that virginity is a manifestation of holiness.
To fellow myLotters, do you agree that virginity/chastity/celibacy are forms of holiness?

I do not agree I also don't believe that Mary and joseph didn't have any other kids. The bible centers around jesuse bein the only son of Mary and god. The bible wasn't build around Mary and her life or her husbands. I'm catholic but I do believe she didn't stay a virgin for life. To me staying a virgin is keeping your protected from giving it up to the wrong person and waiting for that right person to come along and let them have it. People glorify women and there virginity more then men's virginity.

Correction please. Jesus may be the Son of Mary when Christ took His human form BUT He could never be the son of both Mary and God. Christ even before Mary was born, has become the Son of God the Almighty Father. (Psalm 2:7, Hebrew 1:5)
This is the point that the catholic church has grievously erred that prompted them to put Mary in a higher pedestal. Mary became the mother ONLY of Christ's human form but take away that humanity in Christ He continuous to be the Son of the Almighty God. Mary being so will have her reward in due time BUT we should not put her equal with God. She has no divinity whatsoever.

Oh boy who told you that Catholics think Jesus as Son of God didn`t existed before Mary ? Don`t you see you know anything ?
Read this : "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" and this "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth."
Who told you that Catholics teach people something different ? "Jesus Christ is truly God, the Second Person of the Trinity, the Son, the Eternal Word, who with the Father and the Holy Spirit always was, is, and always will be."

There you are again, iuliuxd. I did not say that catholics don't believe that Christ did not exist before Mary. Yes, you believe that Christ is God but since He is God you made Mary as the mother of God, AND THAT IS THE ERROR I WAS POINTING OUT.
You are using Christ's Divine Nature to put Mary in a higher pedestal than she should be. You have mixed up His Divinity to create a doctrine that will make Mary adored and worshiped as a god.

Honestly, no. Its weird. We know there can be other forms of gratifications as well. So why only pick on virginity? I can only say that it must have been stipulated to prevent premature births. Idea was to force girls to save themselves for their husbands rather than end up with children who are unlikely to survive or born with deformities. I am only trying to decipher the wisdom behind all those cryptic rules of holy books, mine or yours. Trust me, I do that to Hindu scriptures as well.

How ridiculous can Religion get? If all women remained virgin the earth would be barren. How holy would this be? Why did God create women with the ability to bear children, and Catholic Religion teach that to be virgin is virtuous? Is it any wonder churches are empty, and falling down?

I think it is.
Nowadays, chastity has become rather unrealistic. Chastity should be choice available for all women. If they want to preserve it, then they are entitled to it.
