Every year I have been buying the cake for Christmas for our annual Christmas lunch which also serves as a family reunion. But with my mom gone and most of my family living abroad I will be spending Christmas with just my hubby. I hate seeing my fridge overflowing with leftovers and I am thinking of just baking a small cake for Christmas instead. Even though I know that with hubby having left overs may be an impossibility given his appetite.
I wonder, how many mylotters here still bake cakes? Or do you just buy prepared ones to save on time?

How about Buy to bake :) in the sense of getting the needed ingredients to be able to bake the cake or cookies on each one's mind. My girlfriend has her mind on a brownie for this Christmas holiday.

I like to bake but I don't know how. So maybe I will just buy first. I want to learn how to bake so that I will make one. I have been very wanting to do it because I was influenced by the baking books in our school library. The cakes are very mouth watering.

It depends on what it is and how much it will cost me to make it myself. I also don't like left overs, seldom have them since if we finish them first next day or if possible it goes straight into the freezer.

I almost never buy baked goods, whether it's a cake, brownies, cookies, or whatever. Right now I'm making pumpkin rolls. We grow pumpkins, so it's truly homemade (I love pumpkin roll with it's cream cheese filling!! People love getting it for a gift too.) I'd rather save the money since I do have time to do this. My daughter and I just got done cutting out and decorating a ton of Christmas cookies. I love baking all kinds of cakes, and also do wedding cakes for friends and their children. I have to laugh, when they see what a wedding cake costs at the bakery, I usually get asked shortly afterwards lol. I like the flavors of homemade cakes better, and the fact it's got no preservatives in it.

Since being here, I haven't done much baking. Most of the year, it's just too hot and humid; plus, I'm just not in the mood in general. I'm a Northerner, which is something that I don't think my boyfriend will ever again forget.
Once I'm back home in the North and have a kitchen that I like, I'll resume baking. Until then, I keep the local bakery in business. I know they'll definitely miss me there.

If you enjoy baking, and have time, then it is worth it to actually bake a cake as you know exactly what is being placed into the cake, than the more artificial cakes in the stores. I find that making food from scratch is just better in general.
But some ready made cakes are delicious also and definitely saves you plenty of time to prepare for other things. However since it will be just you and your hubby, baking a small cake will represent much more.
Cheers!

We usually buy cakes during Christmas and any occasions to avoid hassle but one of my aunt love to bake.My mom like to eat refrigerated cakes during holiday seasons, she loves cookies and cream flavor and the mango one.So we always have a cake and refrigerated one during this season.
