Internet spoils me!!

Lost in surfing... - Internet is so compulsively engaging, it never seem to get over.

Hi. This happens to me. Almost compulsively. Whenever I go online. Even though I start the browser for doing specific things, I find too many things that seem interesting or useful. And I click. When I am reading or about to finish reading, I find more interesting things and, OMG, I click again. And on and on! It doesn't seem to end. There's so much thrown in at me, I feel I get spoiled with unending engagement with content on the web. What about you? Are you able to limit your surfing to what you started it for?

I´m an addict with internet. I promise I will not stay too long, but one thing leads to another. I have lots af subjects that appeal to me and some of them are results of a post I read here at mylot. The web has so many different things, including books you want to reread and cannot find anymore in libraries or bookstores. It´s an endless journey

You mirror every bit that I am as far as addiction to internet is concerned! Yes, the problem is one leads to another. At least if some one has very limited interests, certain things may start sounding/looking boring and the person may log off. But us! Seems like everything interests us.

Tell me about it friend.....I have changed so much after getting Internet.......there is so much to read, to learn, to do, so much knowledge, fun , interest that attract you like magnet.......I think first time I was in Internet in 2000 and now it is 2011.....in this eleven years I have changed from angel to Satan, but at the same time I realized that now this Satan kind of mind has taught me how to face challenges in life and how to know who is your real friends and who is your enemy in disguise of friend.......My brain actually start to work after I got into Internet and saw what actually people are doing and how this world is working.......in short I really got matured after I was in Internet , so I will say Internet does not spoils us but instead teaches you things which nobody can teach you. There may be some drawbacks, like wasting lot of time on PC but believe me Internet is our friend and not enemy.

Deeply Involved!! - Internet offers so much and we get so involved, it tends to go on endlessly but we enjoy because it gives us so much
Hello apsara: very likable comment! So, you are the intelligent, smart Satan! . Really, in fact even after spending significant time, I've had to bookmark so many pages that occurred to me while surfing that I thought will be useful, if anything I have to seek in prayer, its more time everyday than we have been bestowed now! I agree; I used spoils as a metaphor: something like the parents spoil the kid by showering luxurious life! Internet is a friend-an obsessive friend. An over-involving friend!!

I normally switch on the Computer at 10:00 am and it stays online till I say good night. The entire day I stay online researching and reading... I spend all my day doing things that I love. Great for people like me who stay at home most of the day and gain knowledge and work all from the internet.

sids: I fear I'll end up emulating you!. These days, I have got a break while I am trying to figure out my next course. So it's got even more of a compulsive routine. Good for you, you seem to have mastered it. I'm at the crossroads and am skeptical if I end up a rolling stone!. I am getting quite determined to make it happen-online freelancing-though!

With the small Idea that I have framed about you (reading and the interactions we have between us) I am quite sure and certain that things will fall at place for you one you decide and roll the stone... Maybe one day we can be working together on an assignment together... me doing the programming and you taking care of the SEO or even the content as you do write great

I am the same way. Whenever I go on the internet to look something up, I end up finding a dozen more things to look up. It can be a never ending thing, that is the reason I often end up on the internet for hours each day. I am honestly not sure how I ever managed to survive before the internet.

Ha ha! quite true; really do not know what were we doing with the kind of time that we spend with online stuff. May be we used to be more outdoors hanging out with friends, which is cut off due to this now. That is a loss. . But we always win some and lose some.

We're almost the same. Every time I sat down in front of a computer to do a particular thing, I always end up in many different sites. I think I'm stuck with those sites that I can't continue with my purpose of using the computer. It's indispensable.

Hi rusale: very true! Lets invent a tool or program that will display only sites that we want to work with and ban too many intrusions there!. Honestly, this one is getting to be even greater intoxicant than other known stuff.. And technology will get the better of every one and I wonder what lies in store ahead!! @thewonderboy: I hope I'm in your 'us'

Well, I am a surfer and but limit for what I am doing because of many some reason. The first reason was the limit set by the website alone. The second was there are many website that I need to surf and get more credit from them... The good thing when I surf was to win cash prize sometimes and really good to surf daily if I see that I am always a winner of $10, $5, $2 or $1... This is my daily activities just surfing and surfing. How about you friend do get some when you surf the internet?

No, I'm not as lucky as you to win money when surfing. In fact, I haven't targeted winning money while surfing. I just surf to do specific things with my blog, forum posting and e-mail but I invariably find something that attracts me for learning new things.

Sometimes, I just let go and turn off the computer. I would sleep or eat and work on something else. I keep in mind that the internet will not leave anyway, that I can return later. I admit there's the temptation to play games but an offline game like solitaire can work on that. There is only the need to classify websites if addicting or not and the problem is half solved.

Quite right, cowboyofhell; you have got some good ideas to stay off from obsessive surfing! In the other half lie the major distractions; each one of us would have some specified things but the web is so wide [being the world wide web] and so much is made available on a colorful platter, it is hard sometimes to look the other way.

I happened to be spoiled by internet this morning. I really wanted to end surfing this morning but I could not give up easily stop not doing that anymore. I just wanted to get on and on until I was stuck and tried to find the way out of it. I felt relieved after I was out and never wanted to get captured again with the same site. If I open it I knew that I like it so much.

Very true. Even as I am typing this response, I know I have certain things I thought I'll also finish. doing: like my internet payment towards my broadband monthly charge, some fund statement inquiry etc. Those are still hanging yet I have already opened four more tabs to indulge in!. Good you decide to restrain yourself a bit.

I must say you moderate your use of internet quite well. I get very curious if I see any interesting looking topic and digress!

Yes I am I live by a scedule when to do what. To be honest I don't like surfing the internet since I seldom find something interesting. Mylot works better for me if it comes to getting info or different points of view. This keeps me busy thinking and thinking over and figuring out how or what or why in a positive way.

It is really easy to get distracted on line. As long as you stay productive you should be okay. I find myself looking at the time when I have deadlines to meet. If your just browsing online take a break as you would need time to stretch and have time for other activity.

Yea, that's a good boundary line to set: do it as long as it remains productive. What with apprehensions back of your mind that something even more invaluable could have happened if I had followed that article/item/story etc? . Its a tough choice: staying rock solid in the face of inviting distractions or indulge as much as one can to dip into the informocean!!

I thing Internet is the one of the best place where we can get rid from bore. I think it is very easy to get into Internet but it is very difficult to get out of it. I find very difficult to get out from it even during my exam days.

This is not only your problem. It happens always. If we have time it is good to surf and get the ideas.Meantime we should try to limit ourselves.

Thank you simsim for reassuring me that there are a lot of other people keeping me company.. Hard as it may seem, yes, we have to moderate.

Hello... Yes, this has happened to me too, plenty of times... There is a lot of data and everything (almost) is accessible. I used to log in with the purpose of doing something & after a couple of hours, I'd find myself doing something else. The solution is: when you log in, first of all do what you had planned to do, it'll require a little practice, but its not impossible. Tell yourself not to divert until your work is done...

Hello Pushhyarag2000, Internet is like an ocean and there are lot of things we can do when we are online.Like you i also have many things in my mind to do when i am online and sometimes even i don't get time to do mylot due to those things. That the beauty of internet it keeps me busy with some constructive things.

So much so, sjvg, these days not less than five-six tabs will be always open when I log in.. This is what those smart browsing companies get us into: keep doing innovation in the name of helping us do many things simultaneously. Each tab is a deep ocean in itself; imagine wading through several deep oceans concurrently.. Phew!!
