This morning I mentioned to my dad that a few months ago my mom had mentioned she wanted an iPad. When I first told my dad today he was like no. Then not 10 minutes later he came into my room and wanted to order one online.
He's horrible with computers and he managed to get to the website, find the right iPad and order it. After, I said that we could get my mom some iTunes gift cards to get movies, apps, or whatever she wanted. His answer was that we shouldn't, because he doesn't know what apps she'd want. I started cracking up because he had no idea that we would get the gift cards so my mom could pick out the things she wanted. I explained to him and he started chuckling because I guess he realized that he was way off.
It's so funny how clueless he can be with the things of today. Ordering online was such a big accomplishment for him and he got all excited once he was done.
Do you know anybody that just doesn't get some of the things we have today?

I'm not pretty savvy when it comes to technology, but I wouldn't consider myself really behind.
But last night, I finally relented to my son's begging of getting an xbox live gold account. He's been asking for it for the longest time, and I said I didn't want it because I didn't want him playing games online with a bunch of strangers. But yesterday, after he explained about other apps that we could access from our TV, including netflix and youtube, I finally said yes.
I still don't get it, but it's exciting to see it work!

lol At least you seem to be more knowledgeable about technology than my dad..he's clueless lol.
Xbox live is actually pretty cool. My boyfriend has it and he can play with his friends and he's even made new friends with a bunch of people from other states. The Netflix feature is also pretty cool. There are some weirdos and stuff on their but for the most part I think it's pretty safe. I kind of want one for my xbox but I don't think I will because my boyfriend said that whenever the guys found out a player is a girl, they start harassing them and saying lots of nasty things.

Hi courtknee525.
My father and my mom don't know how to use the internet as well. They don't know how to order online and my dad kept on asking me how does Facebook and Twitter works. I tried explaining to him but he cannot relate because he doesn't open the computer. He fears touching the pads for fear of ruining it. LoL
But it is okay still that they are not computer savvy. They don't need it anyway. They are contented with the phone and the television set.

lol my dad only goes online to check his email and go to Amazon. He has an iPhone but he's pretty clueless about that too. He's always asking me questions and he gets so amazed when he learns something new lol

You are in good luck. I was sure that your father did better than my father did. My father didn't even know the term buying online. He knew and ever heard the word 'Internet' but I was pretty sure he didn't even know how the internet work. I would never ask him about what's all these. I could imagine how he would be surprised to know that we nowadays can buy thing without having to move from our place and didn't even see the things that we wanted to buy. How he coped with this concept? My father just know how to call me via his phone and I was sure that he only did it. I was also sure that he didn't know how to send a text as well. I realized that how complexities would disturb his mind and soul too. See how lucky you were to have a father like him?

hello,
Yeah, maybe all the old or few people are not aware of that kind of technology. I also experience that kind of situation to my mom and I have a hard time to explain to her completely. But thank god in the end of our discussion she realize that I have a point and then she listened. Well, it is really hard to raise our parents and introduce them an new and high tech gadget. ha ha

Oh my goodness yes. Back when my Mom was still alive she loved to play the games on the computer, such as Pogo.com etc. etc. Only problem was she didn't know how to get on the computer, use her email or even how to get to the website where she could play the games she liked. At first I just showed her how to do it, but she would constantly forget how, so then I talked her through it step by step only for her to forget the next time she wanted to get online. She would call me on the phone saying, "I know you showed me how to do this, but I forgot again." So finally I got her a notebook & wrote everything down for her step by step & that actually worked for a little while, but eventually she lost the notebook. After that I gave up .... LOL

lol that's pretty funny. You can only do so much and if she lost the notebook, you really can't help her much more

Lol, I have the same dad. He spent months and months to learn how to use a normal mobile phone, and not to mention that he needed 10 minutes to write a one sentence message. Recently he started using the computer and this is where the fun starts. He can't handle the mouse and has troubles navigating through the entire interface, so now I'm trying to get him to know technology a little bit better. Scary thing is if he accepts it and starts using it madly. Imagine if he made a facebook account and added me lol :D

A lot of the the new technology and and a lot of the things to do with the internet is very confusing, but it is amazing how fast we can catch up and learn all the new things, we just have to be told and shown.

A lot of older people don't. Now, I am not saying that ALL old people DON'T know how to use technology, but I am saying that there are many of them that really don't know how to use modern technology.
My grandmother and my step-father really don't know how to use modern technology, and the reason that they don't know how to use modern technology is because they just aren't too open to it. They are much older, and they feel like they are just too old for it. I don't think that they really are because I feel that you can learn about technology at any age, but it's how they personally feel about technology.

My father is same as you, he don't even know how to operate a computer. Your dad was even able to open website and order it online, but my dad is like he can't even switch on a computer if it is off. He is very dumb in terms of the new technology.
I think this is with every old generation of people. The new technologies like iPad, Tablets, smart phones, etc. are gadgets of today and they all are unaware of these.

hi, my mom doesn't know how to use internet as well, hahaha! so far i had make an email and facebook account for her. and every time she needs to access both, i have to be present or anyone of us who can teach her again and again. but with all due respect, she knows how to type the words and press "like". i guess that should be enough.

You don't need to go anywhere else to find somebody like your dad. Yours truly is here. My view is, there are certain obstacles or limitations that prevent one from being familiar with the many things new technology offer these days. First, Father time, second, change of interests and priorities, and third, financial affordability. While certainly, these new technologies make my life easier and comfortable, I am afraid of the saying "you cannot teach new tricks to an old dog", is slowly catching-up on me.
