How much Fish?

United States
December 18, 2011 9:38am CST
I am trying once again to bring my eating habits back into a healthy balance. I really need to lose about 20 or 25 pounds! I hae included more fish in my diet, but I have heard so many different reports about it I get confused. Is fish good for us; or bad for us? Can I eat it every night at supper? Or only two or three times a week? I only purchase wild caught fish - no farmed - yuck! and I have mostly white fish with salmon only about once a week... what's the right limits on this "healthy" food?

Eating too much healthy foods are bad. If you really want to lose weight, you need to have your own regular exercises like jogging every morning, plenty of water, and eat your fish. Try to buy deep-sea fishes like tuna and blue marlin.

I have started exercising more. I have some tuna, but not blue marlin. I have eaten salmon, flounder and cod so far. I really like all of them! Thanks for your input!!!

Your welcome friend. By the way, if you are desperately lose some more weight just don't over do yourself by exercising more. Instead, you will exercise after you wake up in the morning and before bedtime. Blue marlin is quite expensive than tuna in our place, maybe because of the fish meat's nutritional facts much greater than the tuna.

Hi friend... Judging by your pic, I really don't see the need to lose 25 pounds.. and 25 pounds is a lot, it'll require a lot of work out n stuff.. You need to eat simply prepared fish only, not spicy.. Also, you need to add green vegetables and fruits in your diet... Good Luck!

Thank you for the compliment! But I do not think I could get that suit on right now! I was idle for about 10 weeks and ate a lot emotionally. I'm just now getting back to training for a half marathon and working to strengthen my core. I hope to get better and slimmer again - I want to wear that suit again! lol!I am eating a lot of green veggies.. that's no trouble for me as i like all of them (except celery!)...thanks!

Fish is very good for you but no you should not eat it every night. Too much of any one food can be bad for us eating fish three times a week is fine. Substitute chicken and pork on the other days and maybe have beef once a week for a good balance. My mom lost a lot of weight just cutting her carbs down. She still eats carbs but no more than one piece of bread or no more than 1/8 cup of pasta or rice per meal. She lost 27 pounds just doing that and of course not eating sweets or junk food. If there was a sweet she wanted she would take one bite or two and then push it away.

Yay! I am glad that your mom found a great way to lose the weight she wanted! That's awsome!I do not eat pork, or red meat very often. Every now and then I will, but not very often at all. I cannot even remember when I have purchased red meat! lol! I do eat chicken and some turkey so I can switch between those I suppose!

Fish is a very healthy food. Majority of them have omega in it that its good for the heart. I believe that there is no harm in eating a serving of fish everyday. I think what you heard is about the level of mercury in it. There are varieties of fish that has a higher level of mercury than others and this also can depend on where the fish was caught. Eat fish but also examine it and stuff. Make sure that it is safe.

Yes, it had to do with the levels of mercury for sure. I am thinking it is the darker fish (bottom fish) that have higher levels of mercury. I am trying to put several days between my servings of salmon and eat flounder or cod in between. Thanks!

Sure, you didn't want to eat them until you feel yuck and vomit them out. I think eating them as much as you can does not arm your diet or added your weight. Fish meat contain lot of protein that is really need by our body and eating fish make you a lot smarter than the one who consumed less fish or protein. But please consider this, don't eat too much sea food especially cause allergic and stuff like that. I hope you would be able to reduce your weight as you wished. Right.

Thank you for your response. I had heard that some fish contain mercury and are not good for you if you eat too much. I think that those are the darker fishes though like salmon and tuna. so I will try to eat mostly white fish as I understand that they are not as bad for us! Thanks!!

Most of people dont like to eat fish often, like in Croatia... Considering they have exit to sea and big fish supplies they export it and its very low percentage of fish they eat yearly. about fish its best to eat it 3 times a week. but if you want to lose some pounds and start a diet dont read internet crap, go to your doctor and have a talk with him, he will give you best advices about it. Most important is to NOT START A DIET ON YOUR OWN...

I do not have a doctor and I do not go to the doctor as I am a very healthy person. I have signed up for a program with a very qualified person who is encouraging me and giving me workout ideas and food suggestions. I just notice there is a lot of fish in her diet plan. (not that I have seriously stuck to it yet!) I do not really trust doctors. They are far more likely to try to get me to take medications to support thier cause than to help me eat healthy so that I do not need their services!! lol! Thank you!!
