What is the number next to your name?

It's the number of responses - the more people respond to you, the better your rating. So if you ask, "What's your name" and 5 people respond "lucy", "jack", "april", "tom", "kate" you go up 5. So its better to ask questions and put info people want to talk about so your rating goes up!

It can't be the number of posts you've made because I was like 200-something when I first joined. I remember wondering if the number beside my name was my member number, like if I was the 507th person to become a member then it would say "Backpack30 (507)" and that would make sense, but that wasn't it. I wonder what that number is.....

I thought and still do that the number or rating next to your name was the number of posts you have done. I you notice evertime you post something it will go up by one. A little bit ago though my did jump to almost double what I had. Since I c that several people opened discussions about it I would assume that was just a glitch. So back to work peoples the number aren't going to up by themselves and remember to rate people.
