So yesterday my instructor called me if and asked me if *Drum roll* I wanted to join the Goldilocks 7th intercollegiate cake decorating competition, at first i was hesitant and I said "Ill see if I can join"The actual regional competition is on January 16, 2012 still a few days away the in order to join we need to make a group of consisting of 4 student(HRM students, pastry students are not allowed to join)as soon as i meet the other chosen students I was relief because on of them is my friend =D hurray for that no awkward moments. So after i get home I was wondering if my piping skill hasn't been lost so I made a butter cream frosting and started practicing and made simple cake borders to a little complicated one.Today i got itchy and started making a fondant to try my fondant skills I tried making fondant flowers and it went well, I texted my instructor and confirmed that ill be joining the group =). here are the fondant flowers =D!

Congratulations, I can't see the flowers now, but I am sure they are lovely. They only show up after I comment, as I respond from my email notices from mylot. The group of you will do a wonderful job. Have a nice day.

Hi Pepai, I just scrolled up and saw your flowers, they look lovely. Can't wait to see the cake you decorate too. I use to do alot of cake decorating, but nothing as nice as you do. Hope you are enjoying your day.

Even though how simple or adorned a cake is people still appreciate and eat them, Cakes are sign of celebration, get together, and just ordinary happy days so whether its simple for just an ordinary family dinner or an extravagant wedding party people will always tend to remember the taste of the cake not the design =). but im not really that good at decorating a cake im really clumsy when it comes to cake decorating hehehe... (I prefer to plate a dessert).

No marguicha hehehe I would have been a pastry student sadly I was lazy to go and leave in another place to study so I took up Hotel and Restaurant management it still tackles culinary arts but not on pastry arts. You can actually look for recipe on the internet but Ill tell you what it needs since we cant post recipes =P... it needs confectioner sugar, gelatin, glucose, glycerin, water, and a bit of shortening and flavor of your choice ^^. I hope you have a wonderful christmas marguicha =D

You can also buy strips of it in craft stores. One of my best friends wants to open a bakery (unfortunately $$$ is keeping her back)and she recently started experimenting with fondant. She made my wife a strawberry champagne cake for her birthday but used fondant for making flowers and a few other things on the cake turned out very well. Her baked goods always make gourmet goods taste like crap. Shes an awesome cook even when its not baked.

I checked at the web and there were many very different recipes, from very easy to very elaborate. I think I´ll try the easy ones first and a little amount to check how it comes out. As for buying it made, I like to learn these things and besides they will surely be more expensive than what I can afford.

The flowers are really nice. I can't make baked goods to save my life. Well unless its prepackaged and comes out of a box. I am horrible with deserts. I am pretty good elsewhere, especially my potato soup.

gum paste flowers and figures - I am not that very good but I am trying to improve my work.
Good luck to you! I'm glad that you seem to enjoy baking and cake decorating. I haven't tried making fondant but I make gum paste for the decorations for my cakes. I love working with gum paste. Below are some of the things that I have made with gum paste.

No. I just use a round cutter for my roses. Even though I have rose cutters, I prefer to make them with round cutters. I used to use anything round to cut the petals and frill the edges with my fingers only before when I didn't have tools yet.
