I had my latest follow up with my doctor (actually her nurse practioner because she was off on maternity leave) and she decided it was time to do a pap smear. She called me up a week later and told me that there was an abnormality present and they were going to order a PET scan. When the nurse called to tell me when the appointment was the phone didn't ring so I just got a voicemail and I will have to get the details tomorrow. I just hope my phone works right tomorrow. If it isn't one thing it's another. She told me that they consider me to have "stable disease" which is better than having it get worse over time. I will be taking it one day at a time and hope for the best. Merry Christmas everyone!

What does she mean by a stable disease? I hope it's not really something serious, my friend.

Basically, it means that it isn't getting any worse, but it isn't getting any better either. I could survive like this for years since my cancer is really slow growing and the medication I am taking now (for the last three months) seems to be making it stay stable whereas when I wasn't on any kind of treatment the numbers doubled in about two months time.

My lymphoma is also like that: a slow grower and no cure for it. So it´´s wonderful if it stays quietly there for sometime. I never knew exactly what the word "on resission" was until now. We are checked every few month, with PET scans and the like, and we have some meds (in my case though a catether)so that the beast stays dormant. Deb here (daeckart) is a winner!

Oh so that was what was meant by the nurse. Well, that's good to hear. Just be religious in your taking them, so it will stay just stable. Have a nice day my friend.

Merry Christmas, Debbie! And post us as soon as you know anything. I agree with you about taking one day at a time. That´s what I´m doing and it´s working. I´m feeling a lot stronger after that set back last month. The good thing about it is that I´m 5 kilos slimmer. The bad thing is that the kilos did not leave where I did not want them. So I will start a bit of light arm gym. I don´t want to bother the catheter, but want better looking arms Take care

I think it's great that you want to work your arms. I have been walking up to two miles a day and riding an exercise bike that also works my arms for up to 20 minutes. It really does make me feel better. I just hope that they don't find anything bad on this test. Take care of your self!!!

I wish I had half of your inner strenght, Debbie. You know that you have been very important to me and maybe one of the biggest reasons why I was not depressed when I was diagnosed with cancer.

I got a call from Dr. Hunter last night at 9:30 and he told me that there was nothing unexpected. I won't have to go through the CT that was scheduled for next month so I will just see him. Not sure if it will be moved earlier or not. I'm glad that I could help! Merry Christmas!!!

Dr. Hunter called me at 9:30 last night (really surprised me because I thought they only worked regular hours). He said there was nothing surprising and said I should just not worry about it. It isn't great news, but at least there is no further bad news. Merry Christmas!!!

I'm not going to let this prevent me from enjoying life. I might not be in the best of health right now, but I feel good and nothing is going to change that. I guess that is one of the reasons my doctor didn't want to use chemo again. Have a great week!!!

I bet that was real scary thinking that it might be the cancer coming back. I'm glad that it wasn't that! You have a Merry Christmas too!

Actually, I won't know until after the PET scan on Thursday if this is a problem or not. It is possible that it is a different type of cancer. I hope not, but I am ready for anything that may come my way. Thanks for the response!
