Here in Australia it gets very hot, cats and dogs for that matter can be affected by the heat..here are a few tips to keep your cat cool.
Fill a hot water bottle with cold tap water for your cat to lie on..Put some ice cubes in their water...always have fresh water for them..Cool down towells in the freezer and place them in your cats bed..Wrap frozen water bottles in towells for your cat to lie on...leave an opening for your cat to go under the house, this is where my cat goes in the hot weather....Cats and dogs can suffer from dehydration so please watch them.

These are great tips. I have 2 cats and when it gets hot, I spritz some cold water on them. One of them, Misty absolutely loves it. She always licks the water off of her.
Even now, it's winter where I live and when she sees me with a spray bottle, she'll come up to me and cry because she wants me to spray her so she can lick it off

that's a good idea- the spritzing!
Fortunately we have central air so our two rescues don't suffer.

Having just finished a terrible summer here, with a record matching 112º day (44.44º C) we made sure the cats (inside cats) had plenty of water we sometimes put ice in it, had nice concrete floors for them to lay about on and lots of places out of the sun

Down in South Georgia where I used to live I would see so many poor dogs tied up by their necks with no shelter. Many times they would have no water provided or if it had been provided the dog it wasn't placed right and the dog would have spilled it by dragging their chain under it. I would get so mad that sometimes I actually went up to the door and knocked and gave the owners what for for mistreating their animals.
A friend of mine used to carry dog treats with her so she could give some of these poor animals at least a little consideration.
If you are going to have a pet you need to be responsible enough to take proper care of them.
By the way, It gets mighty hot in south Georgia, too.

You can also take a large bottle of soda container and fill it with water half way and freeze it. The cats or dogs will lay on it or next to it to keep cool.
Great tips, thank you for sharing.
