I've seen pictures in an article about forms of torture, Jesus weren't us horrible some reincarnations ago? We put people to be eaten by lions in gladiator times, enslaved african people for not considering them worthy like 200 years ago...all of those things are now horrible and a crime, but once it was NORMAL.
Are we getting better? Because I think we are.

I think you are right. The world is getting smarter everyday. Yes there must be bad people alongside good people so the good people can Teach. As technology, communications, and knowledge capabilities grow, the more people will see clearly the way we should all be walking.

Ya we may have civilized but we are still Human being and In every human being there is an animal. So the brutality does not show that much on surface but when one gets chance shows his/her true colors to the full

Given that there are many different degrees of bad, that is hard to say. Granted, there were some barbaric things throughout human history. They are well documented and it is a good thing that we have gone beyond that. Because let's face it, there is a lot of things in history that we are really not shining moments of all of humanity to say the least.
Then again, there are still people out there, greed, pettiness still exist. People who will shove their own grandmother down a flight of stairs for a quick buck. There are going to be a different type of bad in this world. There are really going to be a lot of times where humanity are going to have their own flaws. There is still suffering in the world, it's just far different than the suffering from past days.

Yes! Getting better....The more people get educated ,the lesser the cruelty gets. With more people getting educated, the approach of dealing with the issues gets more educated.
With constant improvements in laws to protect the human rights, we are certainly getting better.
But there are some countries, where even the law gives extreme punishments, which ,in their eyes is justice.

It's a matter of of opinion, and there are many avenues to see this mindset. In terms of technology, we might be better from people who live 100 or even 50 years ago. Technology altered almost all human activities and made life more convenient and easier. On terms of morals, you can have a variety of opinion whether we are more 'sinful' or not comapred to other generations. Comparison can be made in terms of lifestyle, satisfaction of people and on and on.
Comparing people now and from the past (sometimes from the future perspective)is difficult, in my opinion. Standards and lifestyle change. Societies even change in matter of months. It's very easy to record such happenings (again, with thanks to technology) but sometimes, people don't bother examining them or take them for granted - thinking it as a transient period.
It's natural to suppose that as human evolve, we should be getting better. That's the progression and idealist view. However, if we examine closely, maybe we are in for a surprise.

Well said, in technology yes we advanced but when I look at the barbarities we used to commit and I consider we being the same soul that commited, I think we are getting better, even if it's realllllly slowyl ,lol, but we are. Slavery nowadays would rage population, people would not allow it but like 200 years ago africans were used like they were nothing, so for me that's the proof we evolved. But it's so slow still.

It depends where are you looking.I can give you some examples that nothing has changed all these years. Now we have laws to protect us inside our societies and we think there things don`t happen. But where the law is abolished the same "civilized people " will turn into beasts.

Hi katie: I think you are being too optimistic in this case. Honestly, I have seen so many cases of cruelty and tortures happening in the world these days and also there are still so many regimes that violate human rights in our century that I'm not sure if we are better.
