Plasma TVs are usually better all around except for two things. Depending on your usage a new one can burn out as soon as 4 years and it has a higher power consumption. LCDs typically last longer.

I also think that LCD and LED televisions consume less power and it is always great to have lesser power consuming television sets.

LCDs: Don't put off as much heat, last longer under normal use, less problems with screen burn in my experience. The down side is a lower refresh rate and it might cost a little more if you want 1080p (blu-ray quality) display. Also if the actual screen may be a little more delicate. Plasma: Usually shorter life span put off some heat. But usually has a better picture quality for the price. Don't forget there's also LED. Which is by far the best right now, but will cost you several times as much for the same size tv because it's still new technology. Make sure if you plan to use blu-ray you get a 1080p set. The bigger set you get the more you will notice the difference in quality between TVs.

I do not know much difference between LCD and Plasma TV. I think both television consumes less energy and also are crystal clear. Technology is getting better day by day and more and more inventions are made every day.

I think most probably plasma TV is getting very popular since the clarity it can produce as you have said.
