What it means to be a musician?

I have been a singer/musician for almost eight years now, as a singer from grade 6 - to present, my sophomore year in college. I think that there is such a huge separation between those that call themselves musicians and those that actually are musicians.
I think the title musician should be given to people that can not only play music in some form, but understand what they are doing. Its one thing to copy someones style of singing and be able to repeat it. But, its another story all together to be able to interpret and really get into the meaning and emotion of a piece.
I use to be one of the music students back in High School that learned things by ear and then just mimicked them, then I grew up and went to college and realized that doing that couldn't get me through college. So I leaned how to sight read music and started translating my music so that I could have a better idea of what my character was saying and feeling. Is through efforts like this that I am proud to brandish the label Musician.
Any thoughts?

Musician they are the person who view music as an ART. They are the one who appreciates the value of music and being a musician is in the blood.

I agree with you, at least to a point. To me, real musicians do more than just play music. We understand what we are playing and why. The first step isn't knowing how to play an instrument it is knowing how to read music. Many of my favorite guitar players make music I love, and also make a lot of money, but they are guitar players, not musicians.
Now, before anyone freaks, I don't put "guitar players" lower than "musicians". It isn't a "better" or "verses" thing here. It's a matter of ability. If what you do is "play guitar" then there is no shame in being a "guitar player".
