I'm sitting here thinking and my mind has gone back to when I was a child at Christmas time. Well the thoughts are about the goodies that we had in the house. Those goodies consisted of Candy ( peppermint, candy cane) and other kind of candy as well, fruits (apples, oranges, grapefruits etc.), cakes, all kinds (chocolate, red velvet etc.) Christmas wasn't Christmas without the goodies. I would visit other family members home and I would have to get a piece of cake. Now my question is: is that tradition still practiced in the homes today? Goodies at Christmas time.

In my house this is the case. I am usually the one who makes all the goodies. I make cookies, bread, fudge and candy. If I cannot cook I go crazy. I love to bake goodies and love to put together gift baskets full of goodies. I do make bar cookies because they are easier to handle.

Christmas always brings a lot of memories back for me, as my family have all gone I think of a lot of little things like we always has mixed nuts in the shell, so much so that I grew up thinking nuts were only a Christmas thing. I am so lucky to have so many great memories at christmas, I wish everyone in the world could have a childhood like I had...

Our family has cut back. Everyone gets way too much of the stuff and it puts you in the position of having to cut back or watch what you eat after the holidays. My grandmother, mother and I for years made all kinds of cookies etc.....now this year at my big family Christmas there weren't so many treats....and that was a good thing. So we have broke with tradition a bit. Still have a few goodies but not quite so many.

Hi Chevee. Definitely! I've been baking goodies all week so far and plan to continue until Saturday. That's when I start the main meal for Sunday. We have cookies, cakes, pies, breads, home-made candies, nuts, oranges, candy canes, ribbon candy (yep, you can still find that if you look hard enough ) and, occasionally, a gingerbread house. I've only made two of them to date but would love to make one again soon, maybe next year as I'll be a bonafied grandmother next Christmas!!!
This year, I've been really busy taking care of my kitty as he's been very sick and needs to take seven pills a day plus eat a special mix of soft food that's heated at least five times a day. So, that has slowed me down a bit on my baking but I've made quite a lot already and will be a baking fool for the next few days. My son is coming over tonight when he gets off work and is spending the night so he can help me tomorrow before he goes to work. He loves to cook and, since I showed him how to make pie crust, he's anxious to make some for this year's celebrations.
One good thing about doing all this baking, I'm not eating much while I'm baking and am losing weight. That's good because I fully intend to put it all right back on once everybody comes over.
Do you do a lot of baking?

My family is seriously cutting back on goodies, due to health issues. The fruit is fantastic, and there is not much harm in a little bit of candy. At one time we would have so many pies it was not even funny, now we may have one and each of us enjoy one piece. Family games are still practiced by my family though. Cards and board games as well.
