The other day I was travelling to Bangalore by bus. After the bus left the main terminus, it was stopped at the outskirts of the city to pick up a passenger. The passenger who was waiting by the road side , instead of quickly getting into the bus , handed over his two bags to the conductor and stood outside continuing his conversation inspite of the driver calling out to him , and finally after couple of passengers objected and the driver honked and asked him to get into the bus and the man got in slowly continuing to speak on the phone. He settled into his seat and kept up his conversation at the top of his voice almost all through the 365 km journey except when we were passing through the ghats ,where there was no reception and later when he fell asleep for a short while ...
Honestly, I feel that people should have some social and civic sense while using their phones in public places. It should not cause annoyance and discomfort to others ! This also shows the attitude of some people who only care about themselves !
What do you all say about this issue?Friends , Please share your views..

Hi Kiran!
The incident you mentioned appears atrocious and uncalled for.
The fellow was really ill mannered as he did not bother about other passengers.
Many do not know how and when to talk on mobile phones, while at public places.
Similar incident happened with me.
I was travelling from Delhi to Amritsar.
A fellow passenger kept talking through out the journey about his business without a break.

Instead of banning cell phones people should be imparted training - "how to talk on a mobile phone?"

Hi deepak,
Besides, most of us are not aware of the ill side of the use of mobile phones. A few months back I read in "India Today" that the radiation that mobile phone towers causes many health hazards. It said one's residence should be at least 6 KM away from the tower. It is potentially danger to the pregnant women as there are chances of their giving birth to deformed tabbies.

hi Kiran, there are many such people around... They just can't speak at a lower note.. There is some problem with them... They feel they wouldn't be audible if they didn't speak high.. If you are suffering, then you should tell such people.. E.g. If everyone in the bus had spoken, he would have stopped... Never tolerate such behavior...

Normally I will worry when a pedestrian uses his cell phone while crossing the road but otherwise it does not bother me. However, in the case you have cited, I fully agree with your views. He needs to go along ith the general public but some people are so focused themselves to the exclusion of everything else. I just cannot handle such people.

Hi kala, how have you been ? Happy New Year to you and your family...I have been quite busy lately with hardly any time to spend on the net....I agree with your views kala, some people just care only about their cell phone conversations even when there are others around them or when they are at a public place..At times ,they even pose a danger to others ...

That man was lucky the driver just didn't leave him there. I feel technology is great in moderation and when you can get the things in front of you done.... otherwise put it away!

that guy must have lots of attitude
i hate it when my friends do the same all the time whenever we hang out they always are on the mobile talking with someone or just sending message
i don't know why people do that, there are two of my friends who always do this when we all 6 go out they are always on the phone
and nearly every time that day i ignore them as they don't care about us even sometimes told them that this habit is really irritating but they like don't care about us so why should we

Hi sajeev, I am not sure if that is the right attitude though !!When you are in company and go out together it is downright unsocial and rude to be on the phone all the time. So, why go out at all? why not stay at home and keep talking on your cell phone?I agree with you that such behavior is not only irritating but also highly annoying...I also tend to think that it is very immature to ignore others in your group and stay busy on the mobile - all the best and happy mylotting

Some people really have irritating habits , no manners, no ethics. They just do not think about the comfort of others, but keep doing what they like to do.This sometimes becomes intolerable.

Hi indi, thanks a lot for your response. I agree that many people simply dont bother about others around them. It is extremely unsocial behavior that can also be dangerous to them in the long run.The sooner they realise this the better for them and others around them as well - all the best and happy mylotting

Hi Kiran,
There was a time when owning a noble phone was a status symbol but gone are the days and now you see mobile handset people living poverty Line. ( I am not making statement that they should not but when one is BPL we know that he/she can hardly manage two square meals let alone luxury.)
And people like you described are so overwhelmed with joy of having a cell phone that he cares little how much money he is spending.
You know these days I keep my phone on vibration mode so that it does not scream out and you are not embarrassed.

Hi kraji,I agree with what you say and I too wonder how people could spend huge amounts of money on cell phone ...I have seen students using very expensive cell phones inspite of coming from lower middle class backgrounds.I do the same while travelling - put my phone either on very low volume or on vibration mode so that it does not disturb others...all the best and happy mylotting

Hello Kiran ji, welcome back. This habit of people also irritate me. I am running a photo copier shop, some of my customers when came me for photostate, they kept them busy is talking on mobile phone. I told them again again how many copy you want, but they never listen me. People forgot courtesy while using mobile. It is indeed irritating one.

People who have mobile phones, should know the Phone Ethics.
Though sometimes, it couldn't be helped that there are important calls to take, the person should have been discreet enough to lower his voice. That way, the talk will at least be private, not for everybody to hear.
And besides, he could have gone up the bus while chatting on his mobile, not let them wait for him. The nerve!

Hi SIMPLYD, People want to use everything including cell phones without accepting the responsibility that goes with it ! Some people are very annoying , more so because of their dont care attitude which is just not right - they seem to forget that other people too have similar rights as they do..all the best and thanks a lot for sharing your views

No one likes that when you just want to get home as fast as you can with no disturbance when you're on public transport. I usually travel on public transport in order to get home from school or when I go out. I don't like it when by the the end of the day, I'm really tired and I am totally not in the mood for someone to disturb me. When I sit in the bus, I just want to relax but there are some people who just start talking really loudly like they own the bus and I can hear everything they say. There was this man who sat at the front of the bus and I was at the back but I could still hear every single word he uttered in that mobile phone. His voice echoed through the whole bus and I couldn't relax because his annoying voice keeps annoying my ear. I also find it odd when people don't need the mobile phone to talk to talk to the other person but more of an ear piece. It looks like they're talking to themselves. But it is quite disturbing when people just mindlessly talk on their mobile phones. No one wants to hear their conversations.

I agree that we don't want to hear the loud conversations that go on around us, it can be quite embarrassing at times and some people simply don't seem to mind that others are also hearing or made to hear something that needs to remain private...Many people get so carried away that they keep their house guests waiting for a long time without feeling guilty.I feel that it is rude to do so...Thanks a lot for your response Triple and have a great year ahead

Everything would have been okay if it wasn't people that never really knows how to use these IT products in a human manner. People should know how to show respect to others and not to think that he or she is the only one on Earth. How can he be so ignorant about others' presence? If he really needed to continue the conversation on phone, he can always get on the bus first and make sure the voice is appropriate that doesn't disturb other passengers. Sometimes I would come across such people. I really hope that one day someone can teach them how to show respect.

Hi squallming, thanks a lot for your responseI agree with your views, however, mot people think only about themselves and would rather ignore everything else around them including other people and their rights. If and when this is pointed out to them , they always have a ready excuse!all the best and happy mylotting

A lot of mobile phone users got hit and run because they don't pay attention to road policies and don't give courtesy to others on the road. They reap what they sow, they get hurt worst they die with their cellphone. There is a right place, a right time, and a right way to use our cellphone. It is not only your life that your putting at risk but also the lives of thousand commuters. Come to think of it.

Hi michelle, I agree with that ! I see many drivers using their cell phones while driving and posing a danger to everyone concerned, this inspite of the fact that talking on the mobile phones are banned while driving. One should not be irresponsible or be a nuisance to others by using the phone erratically with no care or concern ..thanks a lot for your response, all the best and have a great New Year
