Smoking has so many adverse effects for not only active smokers but also passive ones that it is always suggested by each and everybody, be he a medical person or a non-medical one, to quit smoking. But most of the smokers never pay heed to any such advice. Moreover, if anyone quits this bad habit, a new one starts it. Thus the process of smoking continues to go on and our mission to make the world free from the bad effects of smoking becomes a remote possibility as it develops a sort of addiction in the smoker. But thanks to medical science, that a medicine comprising of nicotine is being developed. You might be aware that nicotine liberated during smoking develops the sort of addiction in the smoker while the coal tar liberated during smoking has a carcinogenic and all the other adverse effects associated with smoking and is thus a source of threat to both a smoker and a non- smoker who may be compelled to be a passive smoker on time and again. So if any such kind of medicine can be developed, it would be able to meet up the demands of the smokers and in this way both the smokers and the non- smokers can easily escape the adverse effects associated with smoking. I think and firmly believe that it would definitely be a great boon to mankind. But I would always appeal to all smokers to quit it completely and not to indulge in any other form of addiction. It may not affect others but would definitely affect the addict in some way and may bring about new miseries in life. Do you all agree with me?

It would be great if a medication could be concocted that would do the trick. But I believe there is always going to be afew hold outs. Smokers who won't quit. That are so addicted and really like smoking. They are selfish in that they don't understand or care that they are actually affecting people that don't smoke.

There actually is a medicine that does help people quit but it is very expensive and so isn't affordable by a good amount of people. Most smokers are NOT selfish and they DO care and take care not to bother others. Actually, we are not allowed to smoke in most places and most of us have been educated on the harm of 2nd hand smoke and do not want to harm our children or others. I don't smoke in my home nor do I smoke around non-smokers. Not sure why you all still complain because really, we CAN'T smoke in most places and we aren't all selfish, bad people...really. I think it is time you all start picking on the drinkers or someone else because seriously, we also pay a ton of taxes for you non-smokers. If we all quit, you will see.

I tend to disagree with you. Most smokers don't care. Some of the youngsters i talk to don't even know what the term 'second hand smoke' means and couldn't care less! Join the real world!

I am a smoker and I know first hand how hard it is to quit smoking. I have tried many times. Now, I also know that there are lots of products on the market for quitting smoking. None of them work. Believe me. If a nicotine pill was developed, I believe it would never work. The only way to truly quit is to quit cold turkey. And the person would have to go through the withdrawals. I know a few people who have quit this way and they have never went back to smoking. Us smokers need an incentive or the will power to actually go through with it.

Yes, I agree with you. A smoker must have the will power and courage to actually go through with the withdrawals and most of the smokers are lacking in self confidence in this respect and so they never dare to try it in spite of knowing the ultimate fate of smoking.

My brother -in-law is a smoker. He has tried to quit smoking more then once. My sister has tried to help him stop also. Nothing has worked. It drives my sister crazy! So crazy she won't cut back or stop her addiction to Diet Mountain Dew until he quits smoking! My sister drinks it all day long! It has done damage to her teeth and I would not be surprised it has affected her bones, too! It is so childress and I hope they both quit their disgusting habits! Neither one is good! Thanks for listening to my rant!

Luckily I managed to quit smoking more than a year ago and I did it by myself without having to try anything, but I realize there are many smokers for whom quitting is extremely difficult if there isn't a medicine to help them;I hope that miraculous medicine that could smokers quit easily their disastrous habit will be invented one day,but even if such a medicine were created one day smokers should have the right to choose if they want to try it or not;I'm sure most of them would eventually take it,but if there are people not willing to quit smoking, their option should be respected, but at the same time smoking should be prohibited almost everywhere except home to protect non-smokers from passive smoking and its consequences.

I agree with you. With the will power anybody can quit the smoking. I was a chain smoker 8 years back. On a fine day I decided to quit for ever and I did that. I dont think it is very difficult to quit. The smoking or any other bad habit will adversly affect the health of the addict.
