The United Nations decided to stand in silence tribute to Kim Jong Il. What do you think about this behavior? I hardly believe it since Kim Jone Il is not a good leader and actually many North Koreans are still under the controlled and have a terrible lives. I don't understand why UN will express the mourning to it. Perhaps they shall celebrate to it

Some people in North Korea are still in touched with their supreme dictator, ruler and considered God to them Kim Jung Il. But there some still wanted to get out of North Korea because they can't take anymore the maltreatment they experience. I based my statement from the documentaries I have watched in my International Studies class. UN can't directly meddle and interfere with DPRK since they still have to consider the outcome. It is hard to get in North Korea and it is also hard to get out. I believe UN will able to come up solutions which will have to do to with the future of DPRK.

Over many decades the United Nations has made many mistakes in my opinion. They have recognized many countries with questionable leadership. It does not surprise me they would act as they did about the late North Korean leader. The last thing the U.N. wants to do right now, is offend another government and put adjoining countries in danger, such as South Korea. Personally, I have no respect for the U.N. but if their action protects South Korea, then so be it. There is nothing in North Korea to sustain its people other than a military life in its army. It is the best anyone living their can acquire as financial support or a way of life. Unfortunately, the peasant lifestyle is overwhelming in many countries and North Korea appears to be one. Even with a change in leadership, what future financially do the people of North Korea have and what change in lifestyle would happen to improve it? The best thing that could possibly happen is for the boundary between North and South Korea to be abolished and leadership given to South Korean where there are other options for a decent lifestyle. Unfortunately, that would mean the military would have to revolt against the leadership of North Korea, or war between North and South Korea. That didn't work out well the last time that happened. Thanks for the discussion, youless.

I hadn't heard about this, but I'm not surprised either. The UN represents governments of all types, from liberal democracies to brutal totalitarian dictatorships, so it has no real moral compass. Personally, instead of having a minute's silence, I'd have led a singalong of "Happy Days Are Here Again!"
Let's hope the day isn't too far off when the North Korean people will rise up against this evil regime and give themselves a chance to build a country fit for human beings to live in.

As a good citizen, we must respect and appreciate our leader no matter what he did in the past. Everyone mustn't pass from doing a mistake whoever he is, whether he is a higher president or lower leader. Forgiveness is worthy.

I didn't mean to say supporting, but we have to show to respect our leader. We can't deny them as they are our leader. If they still are alive, we would treat them as human and if they were found guilty, we have to decide the right punishment for them. The problem was the government of today have hardly no attitude in deciding the right punishment for them as ever happened in my country as well. Thank you.
