Now that I have a smartphone, I began to check out apps that can help me to track my income and expenses. I have tried several free apps, but I now settled on the Expense Manager. It is the one with the purple logo.
At Expense Manager, you can add Income and Expenses. You can also amend income and expense categories. You can make a back-up but I have not explored this yet. You can view your expenses on a daily, weekly, monthly or year-to-date basis. At the same time, you can chart your expenses in a pie chart. I love this!
Another thing is that you can create different accounts. For instance, you can create an account for bank balances, cash in hand, etc. I created a couple of accounts. I added a household account. My husband and I share the household expenses, each contributing a specific amount every month into this account. If this account is not tracked, I often find myself short of cash for groceries and household items.
With this app, I will know for sure how much I have. I can also track my business expenses at the same time. Do you use an expense tracker? Which one is your favourite?

Hello Maclanis,
It's great having an Expense Tracker app right. It does help you to see in a glance how much you have left for the rest of the month or until your next payday or allowance. I have been using this for a couple of months and I'm in better control of my money and I am able to make sure that I don't spend more than I earn, just like you. Thank you for sharing!

Sorry for the belated reply. The developer is BishiNews. I love this app. I have been tracking every single expense and I could see the trend in monthly expenses from there.

We haven't tried using an expense tracker. We've been putting all of our expenditures in an excel spreadsheet. A tracker would probably be easier, but because we have joint finances we don't really have a system in place where only one of us keeps track of the finances so we'd need to have it on a shared computer anyway.

I see. That makes sense, course. Have you tried using Dropbox for shared files? You may want to explore this. So even if you have individual computers, you can still share the files.

Just yesterday I was looking for an expense manager and downloaded the first one that came up in the search results. It's called iSpending for iOS (iPhone, iPad, etc). It's simple to add expenses and income and gives you a report by month and year as well. I decided to start using one because I felt like I was spending way too much on little things and things on sale that I don't actually need. I wil most likely upgrade later to a more sophisticated app with syncing, visual graphs, and other features.
I also just realized I've been using Mint.com for a while. Once you link the app to your bank accounts, it will automatically keep track of your expenses and categorize them for you. I really like it as well.a
