My husband and I had a bad experience last night. We were selling the magazines from the lung asociation and we walked around from house to house like we usually do. At one place the owner opened the door and his dog ran out. The dog attacked my husband and he got a pretty bad wound on one of his legs and we spent the rest of the night at the emergency room. My husband was very shocked. We have seen hundreds of dogs during the period that we have sold the magazines, but it is the first time that one of us have been bitten by a dog. The doctors took care of wound and gave him some medication. We hope that he is not going to get an infection, but we are going to keep an eye on the wound the next couple of days.
Have you ever been bitten by a dog?

Hello Porcospino,
Sorry for your husband.
How did it attacked?.What did you say to the owner? Its very strange why the owner did not pay attention to the dog when you came in?.I had the dog before and we never released our dog on to stranger like this one.
I think your husband might be feeling better now after getting medication ? I think he might have taken the injections.I was bitten by the stray dog when i was a kid and i had to take 7 injections in the stomach at that time so that i may not get infected.

Hi sjvg and thesids!
I also think that it was strange that the owner didn't pay attention to the dog and just let run out of the door. We have a dog, too and we always make sure that he isn't close to the door when we open it. Some people are afraid of dogs and they would get scared if he ran out of the door when we opened it, and I think it is best to keep him away from the door.
7 injections that is a lot when you are a little child. I am sure that I would have cried, too. But chocolate is a good consolation when you have to get through unpleasant things I think that my husband was very happy that he only needed one injection, because he really hates injections. I didn't know that it used to be 14 or 7 injections, but it is a big improvement you only need one injection now.

Oh dear! Is your husband alright? What did you say to the owner? The owner should have owned up. I have heard of dogs killing children before. Some dogs may look like pets but there a few crazy dogs out there that just want to attack someone. I am always scared o the big ones because if one attacked me, it would pin me down and rip my head off! I was bitten by a dog before. I made it angry because I kept poking it while it was eating and it chewed my finger. Luckily my finger didn't fall off. I was just a kid back then and the dog was a small dog. I'm scared of the big ones, their jaws are huge! What kind of dog attacked your husband? Must be big to take a chuck out of your husband's leg. I have heard on the radio about dogs turning on their owners and it has killed children before. So I reckon it's not safe to have dogs when you have young children. Dogs maybe man's best friend but they still have canine instincts and they still have big teeth.

Fortunately my husband is feeling better today and the wound isn't as painful as it was when it happened. We hope that he can avoid an infection and that it will heal without problems. The owner apologized to my husband and screamed at the dog because he was so angry at it. He told us to get back to him if there were any problems. We have his name and his address and we will contact him about the insurance. We have paid for the medication ourselves, but we want him to pay for it since it was his dog. I am not sure about the race, it looked like a mix of different races.

Wow, what breed is the dog? I have sustained some wounds from different dogs but none needed medication and healed fast. Insurance from dogs? It's my first time to hear. I'm confident that the wound is temporary but if the dog owner can escape his responsibility it's not something of a loss. I've known people who paid so much for an accident where the killed is the one at fault but the other driver bore the costs. They have shrugged that money can be earned again.

We didn't recognize the breed, I think that it was a mix of more than one breed. Yes, here an insurance is mandatory if you own a dog. We have something called "the dog law" where it says that every person who buys a dog must buy an insurance as well. If the dog damages something, bites someone the insurance will sometimes pay for it, but it depends on the situation. If my husband had been teasing the dog or something like that the insurance wouldn't have paid for it, because then they would have considered it his own fault, but he didn't touch the dog at all, so I think that the insurance is going to pay for it.

Thank you. I hope that the wound will heal without any problems. It was very painful the day when it happened, but it got better when the doctors had taken care of the wound. I am happy that there was a hospital in in the town where we were selling magazines so that we could go to the hospital straight away.

omg I am so sorry for that unfortunate event. I hope the wound is treated and is better now. But no I have never been bitten by a dog. But I am always really scared and alert for the same reason whenever there are dogs around me or when I am in a friend's house with dogs. They always scare me.

Fortuneately my husband is feeling better now, and the wound is not as painful as it was the day when it happened. We finished selling the christmas magazines from 2011, but when we are going to sell the mazagines next year we will be more careful and avoid the houses with dogs completely, because we don't want the same thing to happen again.

That was really shocking and scary.I never experience to be bitten by a dog but almost bitten.I went to a friend's house and on the way, there is a quite unfriendly dog that kept barking and try to attack and bite.Thank God that the owner came immediately to seize his dog.

That sounds scary. It is good to hear that owner came and picked up his dog. My husband was also very shocked and scared when that dog ran out of the dog and attacked him. He didn't even know that there was a dog in the house because there was no dog sign on the door. I think he is relived that we finished the selling the christmas magazines because that means that he doesn't have to meet any more dogs.

I hope that his insurance is going to pay for it, because every dog owner in my country needs to have an insurance. It is actually illegal to have a dog without an insurance, and the insurance is used when the dog causes some kind of damage. We have paid for the medication out of our own money, but we hope to get the money back. Yes, it was a very shocking experience. If we see a big dog behind a gate we usually skip that house, but in this case we didn't even know there was a dog in the house.

I can relate to your dog incident. when i was younger my brother and i delivered newspapers and one of the houses had a huge beware of dog sign. the dog was loose one morning and chased us. i thought that was the end for me. I could have been in your same situation easily. I hope that your husband is doing all right and my prayers are with you. take care.

Thank you. That sounds scary I also delivered newspapers when I was younger. If there was a loose dog I put the newspaper in a bag and threw it over the gate instead of opening the gate. We weren't really allowed to do that, we had to deliver the newspapers in the mailbox, but I was afraid to do that especially if it a rottweiler or a similar dog.

Hi Porcospino
I am sorry reading this and pray that your hubby feels better and is discharged from the hospital and has a great Christmas and New Year.
We had only one dog, an alsatian (German Shepherd). As a pup, she had at times bitten me but that was all fine. As it grew old, she suffered from severe ailments - fits and spasms. during this the vet and I would try our best to feed her the food and medicines and during some of these, it would scratch me ferociously (but never the doctor). I still have many scars of those scratches on my left hand - and I dont want to get those scars cleared off... just because they do keep reminding me of the great happy and sad times me and my pet spent together... Today, she is gone but I miss her so much.
MERRY CHRISTMAS

Thank you Fortuneately my husband feels better today. Right after it happened the wound was very painful, but it got better when the nurses and doctors had taken of the wound and disinfected it etc. He has to take some medicine for one week and hopefully we will avoid futher problems.
It is easy for me understand how much you miss your dog, because I am a big dog lover myself and I always get very attached to my dogs. The scratches are a way to remember the time that you and your dog spent together, and I think it is good to keep that kind of memories of the past.

No, I didn't, but I strictly not want to play with any dog in any occasion though. I knew they are adorable, and cute, but they are still animal with sharp teeth. So I won't want to mess up with them though. From my advice, you can sue the owner of that dog, and ask them for the compensation of medical expense you incur from the doctor.

We have paid for the medicine out of our own money, but we have the receipts and the reports from the hospital so it should be possible to get the money back. I think it would be fair of the owner or his insurance pays for the expenses that we had, because it is his dog. My husband didn't tease the dog or didn't try to touch it or anything like that, he just knocked on the door and then the door ran out of the door and attacked him.

hello,
Ohh? How is now right now? I never experience bitten by a dog but I experience bitten by the cat. I know it was my fault. Anyways, what did the owner said to you? did he gonna pay for the expenses or what?. Yeah, you better keep an eyes on the wound.

The owner apologized and told us to get back to him if there were any problems. A dog insurance is mandatory in my country, so he won't have to pay for the expenses himself, the insurance will probably pay for it. We are trying to find out more about the rules at the moment. Yesterday my husband was in a lot of pain, but he is feeling better today, and we hope that the wound will heal without any problems.

Yes, we will definately be more careful from now on. Many dog owners have dog signs on their doors or gates and we avoid those houses from now on. If we are in doubt we skip the house and go somewhere else. Fortuneately the doctors have taken good care of my husband, they have given him an injection and some medication that he has to take for one week. We hope that the wound will heal without problems.

I ... Never been bitten by a dog. I mean, if they are really 'bite' me.
I've always been 'bite', not that 'bite' you have face to. But, like small dog playing, chewing, it's like that. And sometimes, I get annoyed, and I slap him... hahaha
It's not a big problem to me. Because on their age of under one year, they will change their teeth to adult teeth. And they will keep chewing until their teeth drop down... :D
I am so sorry for what you have face to. I hope that you won't be scared of dogs... Have a nice day

Yes, sometimes we get that kind of bite when a young dog is playing. I remember the time when our dog was a puppy he wanted to chew everything including our hands, but he doesn't do it anymore. It was a period he was going through when he was very young. I hope that my husband won't become afraid of dogs because of this experience, but I know that he will definately be more careful in the future and avoid visiting the houses with dog signs on the doors.

I'm sorry to hear that. You are right to monitor your husband's wound very very carefully. Dog bites can be highly dangerous, as can cat bites; but not necessarily. Chances are he will be fine. I've never been bitten by a dog; I like dogs, but I can feel uncomfortable when I am walking alone and there are dogs on the loose running around. The overwhelming majority of them are safe; and dogs seem to like me. But I am always wary of loose dogs, even though very few are dangerous.

We couldn't see it from the outside and there was no sign on the door or the gate.

Thanks. It has been a while since it happened and the wound looks better than it did right after it happpened, and I think he will be okay. I have never been bitten by a dog myself, but I can imagine that it is a very shocking experience especially because he didn't even know there was a dog in the house. It just ran right out of the door and attacked him.

Yes, I think that it is the pet owners' responsibility to look after their pets and prevent their pets from disurbing others. I don't understand why the dog owner that my husband met didn't look after his dog. The dog just ran out of the door and immediately attacked my husband. In my own home I wouldn't let my dog do that.
