Hi guys, Someone I know wants to lose weight fast (due to job requirement) and asked me for help. I was clueless. So I turned to the internet and I manage to get this advice:
1. Set a reasonable and achievable target
2. Select type of exercise and commit whole heartedly
3. Review and alter diet
Does anyone have any good ideas? I would appreciate it if you can give me a website that provide details on this. Have a nice day.

we all have a, i've forgotten the name, but we all have a base metabolic rate, i think it is called, where we burn a certain number of calories that day, even when we do nothing.
no one does nothing all day, so we burn more than that in a day.
so suppose your base metabolic rate (which might be the wrong name) was 1,300 calories your friend could probably eat about 1500 calories a day and comfortably lose weight.
though if your friend is male the amount of calories he could eat per day would be significantly higher.
so if you work out the amount of calories he/she burns doing nothing, they can then eat slightly more than that, without starving themselves.
but obviously when restricting calories someone should always eat the healthiest food they can, to ensure they have sufficient nutrients to keep their body functioning happily.

Hi francesca5,
Thanks for your comments. Yes, it does indeed make sense that if the input calories is less than the base metabolic rate then that person is bound to lose weight. But how does one measure one's metabolic rate? Is there a simple way to ascertain this?

YES.that's true and very effective if you really select what type of exercise and commit whole heartedly ,eat more fruits and vegetables and drink plenty of water, and most of all Avoid fatty foods.

Thanks for this discussion
Well you can try the famous breathing exercises as taught by Ramdev baba of india, if one is fat you lose weight, if under weight you gain.

The way to lose weight in my opinion, unless harmone problem, are:
1. simple exercise like walking at least for 30 minutes a day. Walking means fast walk.
2. Eating small quantities for more no. of times, rather than eating 3 times, i.e., morning, afternoon and evening.
3. Completing supper as early as possible, if possible before 7 pm.
4. Avoiding drinking water while eating. Keep at least 1 hour gap between eating and drinking water.
5. Avoid/restrict excessive intake of oily food, take skinless chicken or take fish instead of red meat.
Some or all of the above seem to be very difficult, but afterall, we gain weight over a no. of years by excessive taking of fatty foods and not working enough to use the excessive calories we accumulate. So, losing weight by SITTING PRETTY is asking for too much.
All the best.

Hi manivas,
Thanks for your tips. But I'm wondering about point 4 which is to avoid drinking water while eating. How does that help in reducing weight? Could you care to elaborate?
And yes I agree sitting pretty and not doing anything at all would not be a good way to lose weight. Have a nice day.

I prefer to go on fast every alternate day.
My friend was also very fat. So he stopped taking dinner regularly and 1 hour of running daily. And note that, its running not jogging or fast walking. He was very determined to loose wait. And by following these things for 3 months he lost 10 Kgs of weight. Good luck.

Hi Phantom90,
I guess strenuous exercise would be one good way of losing weight fast provided one has the discipline to adhere to the regime religiously. Thanks for your comment.
