Putting Away Christmas Decorations

For years I always waited until New Years day to take down and put away my Christmas decorations. This was the way my mom did it and I guess I just followed suit. It really feels funny only having a few decorations out this year. I am in a motel room staying with my boyfriend and there just wasn't much room for anything. How long do you leave your decorations up?

I used to leave them up forever, but for some reason this year I did not even wait until New Year's to take them down. Except for the Christmas cards. They are still up, as we were traveling and did not get some of our back mail until today. So not only are the "old" cards up but we put new ones up as well. They can stay up a while longer.

I use to leave mine up until New Year's also but this year Keith decided they were being taken down right away. He was off of work so he had time to burn and he cannot stand being idle. He took the tree and decorations down the day after Christmas. Of course they still have not made it up to the attic yet.. they are all in the spare bedroom... wondering if he will get them up there since it is April already? LOL!

Aw. Your boyfriend is a scrooge! That's not fair!
I'll probably keep the tradition going when I have kids as well!

My family usually leave them up until New Years. To be honest though, we do not decorate like we used to. Christmas just doesn't feel the same anymore. I think a lot of it has to do with getting older.

Hi,we Chinese don't celebrate Christmas, but we make lots of decorations for the Chinese New Year. I usually let them on for about 10 days, sometimes 15 days until the Lantern Festival. Because Lantern Festival is the real ending of the New Year.

Hi aprilsong. I would love to see how you decorate. I bet you do a lovely job.
Hi joannaleed. Christmas lights do bring a lot of joy to a lot of people. My youngest son kept his in his bedroom for years. It did make things a little festive but neat in its own way.

I have also always waited to take everything down until Jan.1 and my Mom was the one to teach me that as well. She used to say that it was bad luck to take the tree down before then. Not sure if it's bad luck but it is nice for me to have my sparkle and twinkle up for a little longer and to not have to worry about taking everything down while I'm trying to get the aftermath of Christmas day cleaned up. That alone is usually takes three to four days on it's own.

I have a friend who never takes out those decorations.
Well, time flies too fast and those decorations seems to be like a part of the house decorations without realizing it's for Christmas season.
I am not sure how long those decorations was set up already :p

Merry Christmas, Velvet! I usually wait for New Year and even two or three days more. It's nice to have something beautiful at home. Last year I bought a little cypress in a pot and now we have a live Christmas tree.

In our place , we usually leave our Christmas decors up to Jan. 06, the 3 Kings day, as believed and by tradition.
