The change in routine can cause you to gain weight. You no longer eat at regular times and you don't exercise. This alone can cause your metabolism to slow down. Even though your routine has changed, you still need to eat something nutritious at regular intervals and you must find a time to exercise, even though you may not be able to do it at the time you did when you were in school. It takes self discipline to keep yourself fit when you work. It's too easy to say I don't have time or I'm too tired, but the better care you take of your body, the more energy and less fat you will have.
Keep trying, but don't go on fad diets or any short term diet. Life style change is necessary to lose weight and keep it off.
No matter how busy you are, be sure to eat a good, nutritious breakfast to get your metabolism started for the day. A short workout before breakfast is also a good way to start your day, but if you can't workout then, make time sometime during the day. Exercise is good any time you can fit it in.

Your metabolism might have changed already. This might be the reason why you're gaining weight now. You might also be sitting the whole day at work and might have a car so you don't perspire much and don't walk too much. I think all you need to do is eat the right kind of food and do a bit of exercise.

Do not go on diet for the short term. Yeah, diet will reduce your weight. But if you stop the diet your weight will increase again. The important thing to do is choose a balanced diet according to nutritional value of body needs.
Doing some cardio(running, swimming, aerobic, treadmill) exercise, very effective to burn fat.
Practicing in the morning would be more effective. Because your stomach is empty and of course the main combustion will take from your fat.
