I have responded many discussion.. Best free antivirus.. Do you think one can get best antivirus freely.. (it's not about pirated).. totally free? if they want to sell freely why should they make it best with lots of effort? If its famous for best it must be paid.. and one line I have learn during last 7 years of IT is : "ALL ANTIVIRUS MAKES YOUR SYSTEM SLOWER.. MAY BE LITTLE BUT IT DOES.. IF IT DOESN'T IT'S NOT AT ALL ANTIVIRUS" According to logic.. antivirus has to scan each and every file which is being read or write.. every process instance, every request made by us or remote computer.. many other thing... to scan them all these process has to pass from antivirus layer which creates thousands of a second system slower.. if you are running many process, it has to be scanned many times.. so ultimately you can't get your system as fast as it wouldn't be without antivirus.. it's 110% not possible.. is my thinking right? please computer savvy do respond this..

That depend on several think: 1. What kind of anti virus program that you use 2. How big RAM did you have in your computer 3. How big utility programs (MS-WORD, example) did you store in your computer. All of them need RAM, bigger it's better

I agree but it's upto limit. if I am having faster processor and big amount of RAM it takes 0.986 second with AV while without antivirus it's 0.802 second. so it's nothing visible in first site but antivirus does keep slower computer..

but still doesnt matter how great ram and what antivirs you have it will take the speed, it's just with more ram you'll not notice this so easily like in slower computers.

I forgot about processor ... @lajonez: I know, that why I mention RAM plenty time. But I agree with lovedude, there are limitations in the use of RAM.

You right...using antivirus on your computer make the computer run slow....the free antivirus, just less features...but almost effective like premium. I use free trial of Avast, the feature just for scan internal computer, it can't protect email or anything in internet. Overall of it service....I'm satisfied.

Hi I have been on net for the last so many years and have been using free edition of Avast antivirus, you know it is the best antivirus for you which you can download from any website free of cost. So better install it as it dosnt slow down the pc too. Make sure you register and it works fine for one year.

I have 2 free anti virus in my CPU and i think your statement is true to a certain extend. Comparing the speed of my surfing and all, it's slowed down considerably even initially i thought it's due to my RAM. After i did an upgrade, my processes did improve significantly in the first week of it, but after that, things seems to get slower. It doesn't help even when i did my virus scan, formatting it or basic cleaning up. As those 2 anti virus are protecting me well, i take it as a form of sacrifice for the speed of my system.

the problem with free antyvirus is that it's checking the files slower, so it takes more time to search all files, and because of this the antivirus you can buy is working faster but you're right computer with any antivirus, free or not will make your computer run slower.

thanks for your response.. mostly free antivirus gives BETA kind of version in free and then full features in paid version.

Yes it is possible the only differences between free and premium is the ability to update on its own, While you need to update manually on free and scheduled with no worry at all in premium anti virus. I still used the free one and I am satisfied with the result even if I had a very old laptop that only accepts xp sp 2

It depends on whether what applications you open during the scan. An anti-virus, after all, cannot make a system fast since it is only made to remove and detect viruses, worms, etc. If you want to make your system faster, either download a cleaner (it reduces disk space and fixes registry problems) like CCleaner or SlimCleaner or upgrade your hardware (increase your RAM, replace your processor with another of high caliber). An anti-virus only does what is made for. There are free versions of anti-virus software out right now, like AVG, Avira, McAfee. It all depends on your preference. I am a Computer Science student and I use Avira.

I think the best anti virus is not available on net. Temporary you can upload but no longer support. I think net protector 2011 or 12 is best but it is not available free.

No one can tell which is the best antivirus since now. As we all know that a computer virus is developed by a company to promote their antivirus. This is the simple principle behind every newly developed antivirus. The company itself creates new virus and they starts to spread it among the users. This helps the company to promote the antivirus. As new virus are developed new antivirus updates and new versions are developed. Who knows which is the best antivirus ? Each of them has it's won disadvantages and it is really difficult to answer for you.
